I met a guy in a church parking lot once. That was a royal screw over, lost $800 on that deal and when I look back I am highly suspicious the item bought was not only not functional, it may have been stolen too! Further investigation after the fact showed that he was most likely a drug dealer...

To me a guy who lets you come to his house is hiding nothing.

Now , now.... anyone in the know "knows" all good gun sales happen in alley behind the gun store. It sure as hell does not happen at ones home. Just sayin"

FBMP....
My boy sold a shitbox pick up truck in my driveway, and I insisted no one goes in the barn. Deal done, and he had 2 buddies there standing back against the barn. They all have carry permits and do so. The only uncomfortable part was they wanted to drive the beater away and were looking at my outdoor projects that had plates. My son being resourceful has a whole collection of license plates from places we have never lived in, and tossed them a plate to go away with. Never heard from them again.

I bought my Headflow Master rebuilt bus heads out of a trunk of a car on the street in NYC, from a Samba member. Talk about feeling like a drug deal.....

I used to meet customers at a 7-11 parking lot in a bad area right off the Interstate. Car parts for hard cash. The manager came out once and said " I've seen you a bunch, stop dealing whatever you are dealing here". I replied " You got a problem with car parts? Lots of my customers go inside and trade a gallon of piss for a quart of soda before hitting the road again". He had no response.

That is what makes America great.

Immaterial! You can rest assured that he didn't attend! My guess is he chose that location to #1) instill a false sense of confidence in me, #2) because it would be deserted on a Saturday morning, #3) any cops driving by would think is was a church friendly activity happening. I must admit the guy was clever!

Oh ya! Hind sight is 20/20!

MARKETPLACE VICTORY!!

Wednesday's "win", I pinged a guy on a set of alloy wheels about an hour away. Guy was totally up front about his location, a nice waterfront property in a nice town. I was running about 15 minutes late. The seller was nowhere to be found but the wheels were right out where I could see them. I loaded the wheels and left cash payment wedged in the seller's unlocked front door. I felt a little weird but the seller PM'd me later to thank me. All good!

Thursday's victory, another set of wheels. The female seller was totally up front about her location. I like to test my clairvoyant powers on these deals. I figured she was either 70 years old or maybe substantially younger, likely wearing Daisy Dukes and a halter top. Turns out Daisy Duke was the correct answer. It's astonishing how close my mental image was to reality. Damn, I'm good!

oprn wrote: I just picked up a home made chop saw from FG MP, built like a brick $hitthouse and cost me $20!

I've been picking up old DeWalt or similar Craftsman radial arm saws. The DeWalt saws are the genuine shit brickhouse. They're taking over my universe. There is another one a mile away, FREE.

I'm going to keep the best ones and thin the herd.

A young lady asked me for I.D. the other day. I replied indignantly,

"Why aren't you in school? Where is your I.D.?!"

She replied,

"I'm older than I look."

Show me.

The only way I can tell anymore wimmens aren't skipping school is when they park in the handicapped space and take their walker outta the trunk. Especially if I'm not wearing my glasses.

for sure it's people, l have a 1991 westfalia poptop canvas trying to be given away.
a local guy ''wants'' it, doesn't seem he wants it enough to actually come take it out of my way.
luckily the dumpster is always willing.

I don't think its FBMP, per se, that's the problem. As stated above, it's people.

The easier things become, the more inconsiderate that type of person can become (sense of entitlement). And the greater the ease of exposure (the item for sale), the more people see it, which includes the karens. And people, in general, remember the one negative while forgetting the 100 positives.

Yup, one screwup carries more weight than a thousand at-a-boys!

I've been pondering that same philosophical question.

"Too many useless people making too many useful things."

Doesn't quite sound right. Can't have too much stuff, thus the endless quest to buy more,

"Too many useless people making several more useless people, each.

There. Fixed it!

FB Marketplace works for those that set the standards ...
Selling Big Items, you came to look at that item, not the rest of the stuff in my yard, keep it to that item only. Smaller items transactions are dealt with in a Safe Zones such as, the Police Station, Fire Dept., etc. they are in every community with cameras watching. Set-up the deal and the interested item and that is it. Set-up Time your going to meet-up within 1/2 hour or 1 hour, phone number required, not waiting around all day. Can't meet the requirements, move on!
Recently I have noticed a big swing back to the Swap Meets, buying and selling have been good this year, especially those Swaps that are well advertised.
2 cents

Drove 4-1/2 hours round trip last weekend for a set of SC430 wheels for my wife's Solara convertible. Older lady listed them for $50 on Market Place. They have a kind of cult following status and singles sell for $200+ on eBay. I Googled her name, found her address and cross referenced it to some photos in front of her house on her FB page.
I was still suspect, but I drove down anyway. The deal went great. I loaded up the wheels and then grabbed her little dog that I had been loving-up on and pretended like I was gonna stick him in the trunk too. He was a gooood boy...

How does that not feel intensely paranoid to you?

I have a properly calibrated moral compass without oversight from any so- called "authority". Further, it's insulting that your of view your fellow humanoids is so cynical that they can't be trusted without police supervision. That's not the world I grew up in and that's not the world I want to live in.

The remote meet- up is inefficient for all involved. Wouldn't you rather mow your lawn or tend your garden while you wait?

There's the disturbingly anti- social aspect of it. I go to swap meets to make a few coins but more to the point, I go to swap meets to meet like minded people.

I met my last girlfriend at a swap meet.

Yup. Where is a VW enthusiast supposed to meet women?

Ha! I have an idea. TheSamba Personals. We'll meet in safe zones such as the cop shop, Fire Dept., etc. They are in every community with cameras watching.

Is there a Volkswagen bar out there somewhere? Rhetorical question. Even if there is I'm not going. There are more diverse and more interesting people at VW shows brought together by a common theme... old VWs.
