obus that is a lovely selection of cars to choose from on a beautiful day!
On the glovebox buttons, the Beetle ones are the same up to 1967 - you have to push it in while the door needs to come the other way. I fitted an accessory locking handle to my Beetle, but the locking button on the Ghia convertible has no handle. I think the key will act as something to pull on when turned though. One option would be an EMPI style glovebox pull, but it does mean drilling two holes: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2092042 |

There should be two rubber bumpers in the lip of the glove box. Little conical shaped things apply a little bit of opening pressure against the lid and tensions the latch against the striker.
The striker hangs from the top of the opening in the form of a tongue of metal with a rectangular hole. This has to be "adjusted" so the latch hooks onto it when closing and releases it to open. The pressure from the rubber allow the door to open just enough so when the button is released the latch misses the striker and the lid continues to open. It took me weeks of fiddling to get it right.

That makes sense. I've played around with it several times in the past and have yet to find that perfect adjustment. In my case the hinges on the either side are not perfectly aligned (or bent) so they cause additional friction. The hinges also seem to be a very touchy adjustment. _________________ Marc
