I would, too. Even though I'm retired now and have to watch my pennies. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

...Yeah, I thought of German emigration too, but my true home is right here.
Nice images (& book too by the way Axel et al) - well worth the price IMO. |

Axel's book is fantastic, but it does not tell the whole story of the resurrection. This thread has so much more information, great pics (a lot are lost now) and discussion. I have both the German and the English version, but I feel that a book for instance showing all the cool pics of the car in the backyard in Lithuania, all the changes made, how they sourced all those incredibly rare parts, etc.
For instance..
Who on earth has a set of prototype Bosch 1938 headlights? Christian managed to source a perfect set in satin matt chrome. They have the adjustment screws in a different place compared to the serial production kdf-wagens that came in 1940. Were these made specifically for the beetle, or were they a generic design that happened to pop up in the nick of time for the VW38 series? Were the VW39 headlights the same?
I feel there is so much more that could be put down on paper, while we still have it. (Books, that is) _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image

Any updates on the 38 since 2016? Just watched a cool flo YouTube video where it was parked in a museum but that was uploaded in 2020. Any updates? _________________ 1967 Bug:

The car is safely tucked away in the museum at Hessisch Oldendorf. The team is busy building its recreation of W30/26.

Not aware of it being re-published. However, I have heard the that the same publisher is planning a book on the 1937 W30/26. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

I remember this unfolding in real time, hard to believe it's been over 15 years now. I wonder what else is out there still to be discovered?! |

I thought of this segment from "Sleeper" when I saw the car built up from the few remaining original pieces!

But seeing it done and the integrity behind it, I retract my ridicule |
