My buddy in high school worked at Western Auto and installed a set like this on some slot mags and ran them on his '66 Chevy Stepside. I always like that look. _________________ Brian

Found a set of Gates on Craigslist.
My buddy Roy picked them up on his trip to get transmissions.
They are S70 14 (front) and H70 15 (rear). I have not seen them in person yet and 3 out of the 4 hold air. I intend to use them for display. Any info on the size and how to clean them up would be greatly appreciated. I am not going to run them on the street at 60MPH. (before anyone goes down that road. ) _________________ LOOKING FOR VINTAGE MEYERS MANX STUFF!!!

Found an old picture of our 11-15 Gates Commando tires in their element Baja 1968.

Nice picture. I know a guy with a set on 10-15 Commandos sitting out back. I have been very tempted to pick them up. They are weather checked and the tread is worn down a good deal, but they somehow still hold air. Not sure I would ever drive them on the freeway, but with a tube I wouldn't feel bad driving them around the woods. What do you guys think? Worth a shot? _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Thanks and I think it would be worth a shot. Plus you can get some cool shots of them on your buggy. _________________ "The simplest of outdoor adventures - the most treasured memories." - Bruce Meyers

I lucked out, and the guy still has them, although I have no idea what a fair price is for a worn down weather checked pair of 10-15's. Any suggestions? _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Picked up a pair of 10x30 commandos today. Pretty tired after all these years. There is some ok tread left but the walls are weather checking. Definetly not street material, but will make a rolling chassis, and may even be good for a season of just bashing around the woods.

I think the MT mini mag and Baja pros would be a good combination for my Manx. So far I have had no luck in trying to purchase these through authorised UK MT dealers. Does any one have any thoughts or suggestions as to how I could get a set to the UK more economically than going through the normal retail/shipping option, which runs to about four times the US$ purchase price?
Thanks
Laurie |

Try your local tire shops. You may be suprised. If they can source from Cooper Tires, they should be able to get them. Eventually 9.00-15 baja pros and mini-mags are where I'm headed as well. For now im just making it a roller. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Every once and a while I have been firing off a message to Mickey Thompson asking about a larger size Mini Mag similar to the Gates Commando 10-15. I requested a tire that would fit on a 6-8in wide 15in rim and would be about 29-30 inches tall. I also sent some pictures with the latest message I sent them. A Mickey Thompson Technical Representative responded just this afternoon saying that they forwarded my request for future consideration. Will it lead to anything? Who knows...but it is at least encouraging. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295
