I suggest that you place the top on the van temporarily to measure the cutout for the windows. It seems to work out better having the top sitting there and being able to measure up from the gutters of the van rather than from the edge of the top. By doing this you ensure that the windows are set with the horizontal frames parallel to the gutters and that's the alignment that catches the eye.
Which power vent did you finally select?

Thanks for the tip on fitting the top! I ended going with the FanTastic 6600R due to the low power consumption among other cool features( http://www.fantasticvent.com/products/model_6600/model_6600.html ). It fits the standard 14" x 14" opening and has a smoke cover that will go nice with my Wolfram grey hightop! _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Hightop

I have to say, even if it did end prematurely, it is still very impressive to this point. _________________ '87 SyncroWesty: Smokey the Turtle, '85 SubiWesty: Chappie, '84 GTI, '86 GTI in full Rally trim,

Just to let people know that all can't drop 13k Syncro from any of the around the Seattle area. He doesn't work at Microsoft or he's not in the trades. We will put more pictures up when we can. Thanks from all you guys with the interest in this post. _________________ 87' Syncro Westy 2.5 Subaru "Fly by wire" |

Unfortunately my buddy ran out of money, like most people do when your doing a project like this. That's why reason real syncro westy are so spendy.
I loved helping build what we did do on it.
So thanks again people for checking in on this project and like many of you guys wished we could have seen the final product.

The ad's photos are a little confusing - what is that finished looking dark grey hi-top syncro that's pictured? Is this like an "artists concept" of what the finished van was supposed to be? _________________ '84 Vanagon Westfalia

Yes that is what the finish product is going to like when done. It's a really great deal if someone wants to take it on.
I did a lot of the welding on it( I'm a certified welder for the state of WA),but like I said in a previous post he just ran out of money like a lot of people do in a big money project. I wish he could have finished it. I can also answer any questions for ya to. _________________ 87' Syncro Westy 2.5 Subaru "Fly by wire" |

Not trying to be funny, but why did your friend buy a Westy to convert to a Syncro, to add a high top? Afterthought? This will be a complicated sale and hopefully he finds the right buyer. I wonder if parting out would be the better option.

The original version of the NAHT was imported from England, before being redesigned and manufactured in Canada. |

We'll his plan at first was to keep it a westy, but he liked the hightops, so he sold the westy top for the hightop.
Parting out would be good, but what I found with that is you end up getting stuck with stuff noone wants.
I would like to buy a few things he has too, but at this point not an option. _________________ 87' Syncro Westy 2.5 Subaru "Fly by wire" |
