Hi there! My name is Michael, I´m 20 years old and lives in Sweden.

Since september 2012 I´m fixing a rusty and lumpy split window beetle, with the chassis dated to may 1950, and the body dated to june 1951. I don´t know anything about the car´s previous history, but I think that it could be an old rally car. Well, here you got som pictures of my process with it Smile I am producing the most of the metal parts by my own. The only bought parts are the channels, lower door hinge metal and an used floorpan for cutting.

Enjoy! Smile

The picture in the advert. The asked price was 3500 SEK, about 543 USD and "the car" was located only seven miles from my home. My first split beetle, I was very happy!

No, I think that the roof is beautiful and makes the car. The only I am going to fix is the frame for the windshield. It´s not that warm in Sweden that you could drive without one Smile This will be as close as a rollig forest fint you can see on the road, with prestanda, 12v and handling of a newer beetle. A nice car for driving, with a battled body. Smile

I thought you were joking about restoring such a basket case. But you're actually bringing it back to life. Mycket bra. Do you live near my relatives in Ornskoldsvik?

Fair enough. It's great that the shell in such condition will become road worthy again! This split is gonna show some serious character for sure Cool

nice save!
will you fix the rear air vents? would be cool to see them straight and complete. the roof looks nice, if you are allowed to register it that way it's awesome. here any car with even small surface rust fails the inspection from start.

Wow! What a project, fantastic progress!! I love the paint/patina/dents and I'd leave the roof and louvers as they are. As long as all of the structural rust is taken car of...

Make sure when you are done you paste a pic of the huge smile on your face when you drive it the first time!! Very Happy

Thanks for sharing all of the pics...

Can't get enough of the "battled" look. Cool Talk about Serious rolling character? you've got it all right there (at no added expense) Idea
Like John said, concentrate on the solidity/roadworthiness...and let the distractions melt away like spring snow. Wink Arrow
