Good to see that you actually have some original Karmann Ghia parts.
I was beginning to think you were building a whole one by hand.

Great work on that rear wing Antoine, it looks to have come out really well!

I now see what you mean about all the little holes in the same area I had them - very weird!

Keep it up.

Thanks a lot, really appreciated !!

So, I then turned my attention to the front.
This fender was in need of attentions:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So first was to get it to bare metal to check the extend of fixes needed:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The bottom of the back part will be done later when adjusting on the car but for the front part, to win some time I checked which part I had as extra and.. bingo :
This fender was ugly:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

But looked like a front part was saveable as it had been badly patched over :
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So I removed it:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Cleaned it :
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And then it was a matter of ajusting, cutting, welding:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Tacked in place:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Welded:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And primered:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Back part will be done as mentionned when adjusting the front block but it's already looking way better!

I realised that I am missing the outer windows scraper that are specific to the 1960 model year. Reference is 141 837 475 B . If anybody knows about some, thanks a lot! I would also be interested in the profile, to see if I can "adapt" later scrapers..

I made a wtb ad: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2655337

Hi Antoine,

I have some pictures from a set of 60 only scraper moldings I sold last July. Ironically, they came on my 71 Cabriolet. The previous owner had butchered a set of scrapper seals to make them fit but it was totally botched. I replaced them with the correct later scraper moldings. I have some pictures comparing the 60 molding with the later style moldings that might help you though. Finding the rubber seals for them might be hard though?? The moldings are nearly identical except for a lip on the top edge. Here's a youtube video installing the later molding. Adapting a later molding onto a 60 door should be doable I think?

No one makes the one year only rubber scrapers for the 1960. You can easily use the later assemblies. No adaptation needed.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Marc: thanks for the Pictures. I have (luckily) already found the moldings, but did not have the "normal" ones for comparison..now I know the difference Smile
Dan: thanks for this information!

It looks like I got a good advice from my wtb ad and the right sealings might show up soon..I hope they will still be ok and flexible enough, let's see, I will keep you up to date !

Very cool to have found the one year only trim strips! Hopefully the rubbers will be OK. I remember that you found a set of 60 only nostril grilles, but for anyone else looking there is a set on UK eBay at the moment (not mine).

That wing looks better! I wonder if that spare wing you had was repaired with a bit of another car or a factory repair panel? That headlight section was in really good condition.

Hi Dave,

Not sure if it was a part taken early on a donor car or an old repair panel..anyway, was Quote helpful!

So, the second fender... Was looking even worse, with rust and some dents:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So as usual I took it to bare metal:

I beat it back to shape with Dolly/Hammers and the english wheel, like here:

And for the front part I had a NOS part but decided to keep it for somebody needing a bigger repair, and to use it as a template for my patch panel :
