This is built by VW do Brasil and equipped with a standard
1584ccm / 58 BHP rear-mounted, air-cooled boxer-motor.
The domestic Brazilian market also has the option of
a grain-alcohol engine (also 1584ccm capacity but with a maximum output of 67
BHP).
The modern VW Type 2 Kombi has the Type 1 engine (seen in the
USA from 1949 to 1971) as opposed to the larger Type 4 engine used in the Bay
Window and Vanagon models from 1972 to 1992.
