| When fourteen year old Devin Kusler of Lakeside
California, told his dad he wanted a VW for his first car, the two
started searching. They soon found this 1967 Beetle.
That was a little more than three years ago and since then, Devin
and his dad have worked together to fix it up and convert it to
a Cal-Look Beetle. He calls this daily driver his pride and joy.
After purchasing the Bug, Devin and his dad took it apart and sent
it for minor body work and to get it painted. Both the
interior and exterior are now Savana Beige. After the painting
was complete, father and son reassembled it at home, installing new
rubber, new trim, and running boards.
Most of the parts were supplied by VeeParts in El Cajon,
CA. The previous owner replaced the original front seats with
seats from a '68 for safety reasons. Devin and his dad had
them reupholstered in black, with seat covers
added for comfort.
The engine is a very strong 1600 dual port with a new racing cam.
The front end is lowered via 2 inch dropped spindles.
In the future, Devin plans to install dual Kadron carbs and add a Phat Boy
exhaust.
Devin would like to thank his parents for letting him have the car, and
especially his dad, who worked hard to help him fix it up.
Thanks Devin, for letting us feature your first VW!
