Oil Service Wrenches
hazetguy
Top: Matador 261 with a 17mm male end a friend of mine installed for me, with one end longer for clearance on reduction boxes. Made in Germany, production status unknown.

Middle: Snap-On S5902. This is by far the best service wrench of the 3. Great clearance and does not interfere with the frame horns when removing/installing the side fill plug on transmissions. Made in USA, still in production.

Bottom: Hazet 2567. Name is good, wrench is flawed. The angle of the 17mm male end makes it difficult to access the side fill plug on transmissions, and sometimes difficult to use on reduction boxes. This tool is no longer produced with a 21mm box end. It is now made with a 19mm box end and has tool number 2567-1. Made in Germany.

Crank Rotating Tool
hazetguy
I made this tool out an old crankshaft pulley and a head stud. Welded the head stud to the pulley and then I used a drum sander to slightly enlarge the center opening so it slides easily on and off the crankshaft. It's convenient when assembling an engine, to use for rotating the crankshaft when installing stuff like th pistons, cylinders, dist drive gear, etc.

I built this to fit in my floor jack after the 'cup' is removed. If you do a lot of front beam work all alone, it is very nice. Holds the beam upright and drum to drum if you need it to. For king and link bus beams.

VW crankshaft fixture
turboblue
Here is an easy to make crankshaft fixture. Materials include a piece of bar stock 1-1/4" in diameter x 8" long, one old flywheel gland nut and one old pulley bolt.
Weld the gland nut and pulley bolt to the ends of the bar stock.
When the gland nut is screwed into the end of the crank, you can install the rods, timing gears and so on by clamping the bar stock into a vise.
When the pulley bolts is screwed into the pulley end of the crank, you can work on the flywheel end of the crankshaft. Check fit of flywheel, dowel pins, inspect threads etc.
