ryans65 posted this photo in the "vintage splitty photos" Split Bus thread in early June 2025- these are 3 VW Sciroccos ("Mark 1"/1st generation) at the Watkins Glen race course in central New York. Watkins Glen had these unusual pale blue-colored Armco roadside safety barriers. They are likely in a race within the Scirocco Sidewinder Challenge series which were based on mostly stock-spec cars, to promote their excellent roadholding among car enthusiasts in their first year or two of being on sale in the USA (making them '75 or '76 model years).
Seeing that many spectators have jackets, this was at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in October, an event which I attended!
I enhanced the original faded photo in Photoshop using color saturation, lightening shadows, increasing sharpness, brightness and contrast. |
