Quote: SEE it not go to buy it!
so i guess the title of the thread reading"its here and it may have to go" written by steve is untrue???
i think my foul language is totally justifiable when steve chose to constantly misquote me and guess at what my intentions were when i commented on his article from the past. then he went on to defend himself and his intentions with the bus. whatever ,like i said before i really dont care about the bus or where it goes. i do care about the quality of volksworld magazine and i think steve is a detriment to that publication.
however thank you ,ghis , for you raesonable attitude. rob |

I don't often catch up on the Samba,Too many forums, too little time,But I was sent a link to this,
I've read it all,at various times LOL,sometimes shaking my head in dismay.
So much misinterpretation.
I've read Volksworld for years, since day 1 in fact, its not my favourite read, but you have to keep "with it".
I do actually remember the pic and relating comment thats been discussed here from 7 years ago,It was out of order, but hey, laugh it off.its not worth it.
Why its been brought up here,I have no idea.
On reading the first post,I was under the impression that we were trying to assertain the origins of Steves latest bus.
As for how much he paid,Who gives a f**k.It was the sellers bus to sell, and the buyer to decide if he wanted to pay the price.
I've known Steve personally for some years.
Hes a top bloke,A real nice guy,In fact you couldn't wish to meet a nicer
guy.Well adjusted, laid back and with a balanced sense of humour.
I'm also laid back, and with a balanced sense of humour,
Neither of us are rascists, and i'm sure hes as fucked off as I am regarding Busracers recent comments.
Mr Busracer, may you be congratulated for your continued success in reinforcing Anglo-American relations.
Wanker. :x |

The funniest thread on there is the guy who buys a "rat looker" bd and doesn't even know where to find the chassis numbers.

Reasonable me :D I wouldn't own a bus if I was ;)
This bus is quite exceptional, especially since we don't have in the UK as many barndoors as there may be in the US. Steve may eventually have to sell it but it won't be to make a quick buck. When you find, and can actually afford to buy your dream bus, you never intend to sell it on. But sometimes life gets in the way. So we can't judge Steve if he were to sell the bus. Especially if you don't know circustances or people well. The bus is not currently for sale. My bus is not currently for sale either but I know that if people offered me money and I needed money, I would think about it.
Steve is a straight forward person as in he wears his heart on his sleve and he does not mind saying what he thinks. A lot of his column also needs to be read with a pinch of salt. It is humourous banter.
The truth is that a lot of things said on forums would not be said face to face. If you two were to meet the tone of your exchange would probably be very different. |

Oh my god you stepped down your pedestal again to judge another enthusiast. So what, the guy wil learn! People who think they have nothing to learn about buses are just living in bus fantasy. Fact is there always something to learn about buses and some of us have to start with very little bus knowledge; it doesn't mean the enthusiasm is not there. I'd rather learn from experience and contact with buses enthusiast rather than be able to quote buses books at any occasion. I do read info and books about buses and engines but I also know that some of the things I have learnt have been contracdicted by experience and by conversations with people who do know their stuff about buses. Mocking people who ask questions is not really constructive. Is it? Where did you started? Were you born with the intrinsic knowledge of all things Volkswagen? |

But those sort of things are the basics that you should know even before you start to look for a bus. |

Having come from a Ghia background to buses, there are a lot of things I did not know when we bought the bus. We enlisted the help of two people who had owned buses for more than a decade to help us learn what we needed to know before buying the bus. If I were to buy a barndoor, I would probaly have to ask a lot more questions. (I'd probably fly Gibbs to view the bus with us! ;) ). |

i love going on trips and looking at buses but i'm sure as hell no expert. i thought i knew the most about buses when i could tell what year they were by looking at them. the more i learn, i realize how little i know.

Now I am British and an ex-pat, have lived all round the world and generally have a low(ish) opinion of some of the yuppy-jump-on-the-bandwagon bus owners in UK, but the (UK) guys everybody's jumping on in this thread, do not fall into this category. they are neither racists or wankers, and you are pretty much barking up the wrong tree.
From my experience, most of the idiot racists in this world form their opinions from what they see or hear in the media, and we all know the level of the media's ethics. I have always found that the well-travelled and/or laid-back type to be interested and enthusiastic about other countries' customs and traditions, and to me, a mulit-national gaterhing around a common interest is one great party.
There are not many people in this world who have not made some kind of racist comment in their life, it's easy to offend in these p.c. times, the diffence between people is their level of regret over the comment they have made. yeah Volksworld made a mistake nearly 10 years ago. Get over it. It was offensive, still is, but the truth is, loads of people wouldn't have been aware of it if it hadn't been dragged back up on here. It's stoopid to lay the blame on the current incumbent's doorstep, there's no proof they had anything to do with it, that's like saying Chancellor Kohl was an asshole becasue of Hitler's actions.
The whole point is a bus was sold, for X bucks. The seller is happy, the buyer is happy, some people are pissed off and are making knee-jerk reactions. That's life.

Yeah good news, we are all over it! This topic is old news, this began two years ago, 04/04/04 by ME! Old news mate. Your on the late show! We already kissed and made up! I have been knighted by the Queen as a Brit, followed by a formal Tea & New Castle ceremony. Right guys (you Brits can now intervine). REALLY. Then followed by a lecture from non other then Professor Lind-O-Calrisian of the Institute of Contemporary Westies on RHD imports to the UK.
Any hoot, how about that Machester United? Simon & Rich? You guys getting mullered this weekend? I am! It's St. Patty's Day again! REALLY! Hope to see you guys soon? Either here or in the UK. Or better yet, BAD CAMBERG!!!! We will be rolling DEEP!
You know, I have to thank you guys again for the MAN-U jersery you guys brought back for me. I go to this English Pub all the time and lots of Brits go there. I usually talk to them when they are mullered. And put on my Irish accent! It worked at first but after a few times they remember me and eventually made me an official English Bloke. REALLY! Gibbs' is French, now I am a Brit. But I am still a Patty at Heart!
Cheers. And for the record. You can't be a f*ck'n racist in California, especially Los Angeles. My woman is a total white chick, blonde/green eyed (and from IRISH descent). It's so mixed up here it confuses the tourists. Am I right? Anyhoot. I love everyone! Don't care what color, race, religion or creed or whatever. I love them all. Especially woman that are not Mekkies!! Boy I am one confused Mekkie Jew! Oy Vey!
One more thing.......Simon, Rich & Scotty.............You guys gonna be rolling your Barndoors to Bad Camberg?? |

Johnny i know my bus wont be but i will, but i think Scotty wants to, and Rich cant get off his arse to finish his. But i will be there with a few extras in the crew.
So are you camping or staying in hotel? We know pretty a good one in Limberg, and limberg has some good pubs and a night club open 24 hours.
The campsite is also in Limberg |

How can you be so sure your bus won't be done Simon, there's plenty of time left surely???
I am going to try my hardest to make sure my bus is there, but seeing as we're still waiting on gerson panels that were ordered in october last year it's getting very frustrating! Nothing can happen on my bus until Dean's bus is finished and he's waiting on these panels too. |

Scotty, i suppose it could happen but i'm not trying giving myself a deadline, i've had the bus for 6 years now so another 1,2 or 3 years wont make much difference to me.
But i'm sure yours will be there. |
