Hello. I'm trying to positively identify this color so I can order some touch up paint. The previous owner said that the car was repainted in the original color and that it was Neptune blue. When I look at sample cards on that color it doesn't look like a match. Any paint experts out there? Thanks.

"ordering some touch up paint" is almost always a miss. Go to a local paint shop, there will be someone there with a great eye that can match it correctly.

A good autobody shop and match the paint.

I had to get one of the front fenders repainted after 20 years.. .can you tell which one?

Don't trust anyones "eye". Go to a good paint shop. If they do not have a handheld colorimeter or spectrophotometer....find another shop.

They can simply read your paint with it. It uses a consistent narrow spectrum light source and will give them an "Lab" , 3-axis color coordinate set for your color. Most shops that use this tool (and it's very common) also have their set base, mixing color list in each paint series "read" or programmed in.

Once they read your paint, they can choose a series and it will spit out a mixing formula in that series. This does not always mean it will be exact but it will be very close.

The typical problem with colors like yours is that they usually have several different colors in the mix INCLUDING (especially looking at your color) a small amount of white. White reflects back the entire light spectrum (it's why it's white.).

This means that your color may visibly (to your eyes) change color under different light sources. It's called a "metamerism". Colors like this are called metameric colors.

This is why you do not trust it to someone's "eye".

Thanks everyone for the replies! Spectral oolor matching would be the best match for sure. Not sure if I could get a touch up amount or at a reasonable price or not.
I decided to get premade VW touch up paint for Neptune Blue L50K(47) and Regatta Blue L50F(23). Those were the two for 1967 that looked the closest. Came to like $80.

I'll test them somewhere inconspicuous, maybe just inside the engine bay. If neither is good I'll have to go to a good paint shop and see what they can do.

Most auto paint jobbers can mix up a pint of camera matched paint and include hardener for that price, and it's a guaranteed match first try.

Yes...this^^^^

Its very hard to get a REALLY small batch under a pint because when you have a coating, paint, ink etc that has to be matched of lets say for the sake of explanation.....four constituent mixing colors, some of those colors may be only 0.5% to 1.0% of the total mixture.

They are mixing by weight. If you are looking for only a 2-4 fluid ounce "batch".....1 oz is 29.57 milliliters but when you convert that liquid to WEIGHT....that 1% ingredient may be down at 1/10th or 1/100th gram. Its very hard to accurately mix batches in just the few ounces range.

I'm not an expert but it sure looks like Regatta Blue L50F.
Here is a selection of Ghia's from the Gallery Showing Ghia's in Regatta.

Where I live the paint store is not allowed to shoot a test shot on a panel. Air quality regulations. Thus they make no warrantee as to color match. I had to drive over 50 miles to find a paint shop that was allowed to shoot a test shot.
yeah the smog nazis are that strict, afraid a paint shop shooting test shots without a scrubber will destroy the air. nutty.

At least I had the satisfaction of making that drive in a pre-smog controlled car.
