Hey everyone I have been searching high and low looking for a list of 1960 ghia only parts list. I have found a few but was wondering if anyone has seen one on Samba and can send me a link to it.

1.Gas tank
2.Washer Bottle
3.36hp engine
4.front air grills have 3 mounting screws
5. wiring
6. seats are 58-60 thin backs
7. ?
8. ?

I always tell everyone I am restoring a 1960 ghia and they say how hard it to restore because of all the one year only parts. I ask them what all the parts are and they have no idea..... so any info would help!!! thnks

You'll probably find this 1960 bodywork manual of use from the Archives: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/1960_karmann_ghia_workshop_manual.php

The changes aren't set out as a handy list so you'll have to trawl through the book and make a note where it indicates the changes were made.

You might like to let us know your Vin # as some of the item you've already noted aren't correct...like item 6 for example...thin back seats were '55-'57.

The following text was copied from this posting:

1960
'60 Model Year (Ch# 2 528 668 thru 3 192 507) August '59 thru July '60

* First Modern Body
* Headlites at tip of fender. (To end)
* Air vent grilles enlarged, bars held by tear-shaped surround. (To end)
* Taillite, pointed oval, at tip of rear fender. (Thru '69)
* Wheel arch openings reshaped. Opening now flows more towards back of car.
* Quarter window hinged and pops-out.
* Ghias still use the famous, venerable 36 hp engine. Split case transmission, with a non-synchro low gear is also standard equipment.
* Last year in which a fuel tap lever as well as fuel gauge was installed.
* Ghia loses its unique steering wheel and horn-blowing ring. Forever after, wheel/ring is an era Bug item.
* An arm rest is first installed on left-hand (driver's door). Previously a cloth strap was used to close left door. Right-hand door always carried an arm rest. (Between 1960 and 1966, a span of only 6 years, 14 different colored vinyl/fabric arm rest covers were used. No wonder finding original, correctly colored interior upholstery material is nearly impossible. Parts departments must have engaged in open mutiny, because from '67-up, all arm rest also fits Beetles. AND were only available in black.)

But I think, the rarest specialities are in a 1966 model. Confused

Thnks for the body link it had ally of good info. My mistake on the thin back seat. But it is still the same seat from 58-60. Its so strange to me that there isn't a list put together already. Guess I just have to keep doing my research.

What do you call 1960 only?

Some parts were still the "old style" while the body had the "new style"
the 1960 model still had the old gas tank, old seats, old engine compartment sheetmetal, old brake fluid reservoir and the choke cable

1960 specific parts are
Fuse box
The wiring harness is 1960 only
Sscrew terminal rearlight
The front grills that are attached with three screws
Wwindshield washer bottle and washer bottle knob
Outside door window trim moldings

I agree with Patrick, and would also add that the front seat upholstery pattern (the piping) is slightly different on the August 1959-July 1960 cars versus the earlier 16 September 1957-July 1959 cars. The seat structures beneath are, however, the same.

1960 had a one year-only passenger front floor mat - It's pretty much the same as the later models, but it has "slit/oval" shaped mounting holes at the top instead of the round holes.
