I've been trying to find replacement e-brake parts for a while now on my '72 bus and simply can't get them. Classifieds vendors won't write back or don't have the parts I need, and a WTB ad has gone un-touched.

Before I realized I was missing my RH side e-brake lever and spreader, I bought a set of shoes from BD, year appropriate. I heard from a guy on the samba about a month ago who said that I could have purchased the 73+ brake shoes and e-brake parts, which would upgrade my e-brake in terms of functionality and ability to find parts.
I can't return the shoes now since it's been about six months since I installed them (haven't been used at all). Will either the late or early bay e-brake spreader and levers fit and work well on these shoes? I don't care if I need to modify, trim, adjust, etc, to get a safe, working system - I just don't want to keep throwing money at my brakes and hope they eventually come together, ya know?

Dang 1-year only parts.

Any help or input is certainly welcome!! A working e-brake is on my MEL for driving the bus Smile

the only spreaders you can use on the '72-'73 shoes are the original ones. your shoes have a hole at the top for the pin that secures the special spreader:

http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16190

'73-'79 shoes have a slot at the top for the spreader:

http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16191

so you need either the correct '72 spreader and hardware, or shoes and matching spreader for '73-'79 shoes.

photos are not great but if you look closely you'll see the differences.
