I really hate to see foolish moves like this.
Just because two or more bidders, with more money than brains, run up the bids to an unrealistic level does not mean the cars are actually worth anywhere near that value. All that this type of foolishness does is make people with rust bucket piles of junk think their Things are worth ridiculous amounts. All this accomplishes is to keep young people from being able to get into our sport. If you looked at the age of the participants displaying their Things at this years KTE you noticed very few owners under the age of 50.
Yes I am an OLD FART who remembers buying my first car for less than $100 in the early 60's. My first VW Bug cost $500 and I drove it for five years.
Barrett Jackson. Mecum, Gooding, and their like, are destroying the hopes of young folks.
Face it, other than the 74 Acapulco of Ron Domic, have you really ever seen a $50,000 Thing ?
So much for the rants of an OLD FART.
I know I will take heat for this post

I'm amazed Gooding was entertaining the idea of $35,000, even that sounds ridiculous. My first VW was a '63 I think, I can't even remember, beetle. It was $300, I borrowed the money from my girlfriend's mother. Then I married her (the girlfriend, not the mother). |

A car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, even if that person is insane and has too much money to spend. There is a guy in my area that has an unmolested yellow Thing with around 16,000 miles on it... he should prob auction it... |
