The latest from Burly's considerable archive arrived in my postbox this week.

Originally recorded to VHS tape the extensive footage has been digitally converted by Kevin Wiggins and I did a little adornment using MS Movie maker. This is the first installment, more to come later.

Mel Ellis is still going strong and so Burly tells me, still building Flat 4s in Oregon. Very Happy

Hope you enjoy Mel's tale:

Very Cool. Thanks John, really cool footage. I just missed Dick Beith at the local VW haunt by minutes yesterday. When I told the owner about my 36 Hp Bonneville plans he said " another Bonneville racer was just here, Dick ( me) DICK BIETH!" Yes that's him. Maybe next time.

Here's the Dick Beith 1961 Record Run. I've slightly reworked Burly's VHS original, reduced the brightness a little, sepia tinted it and top and tailed it.

I do have the software to remove the scratches but when you realise you have to edit every frame and 5 seconds of video is 150 frames, (or something like that) I though...naaa, I like it as it is. Laughing

BTW Dick is aiming to break his 1963 36hp all-time record of 129.1mph in 2010. Very Happy

John and Kevin,(and Mick down in OZ), thanx for making it happen.

I am glad you did not remove the scratches. When I first received the video from Dick, the scratches helped put the age of his efforts(50 years ago!)into perspective.

Everyone enjoy.....................
