Could some one tell me if an older style '70's bread loaf childs cot would fit, or can be fitted in to an '85 vanagon westfalia ? My little guy would love to have his own bunk away from the girls. I love the posts with the pictures. Thanks to all who can help. |

There's a guy who makes new ones for vanagons. I'd love to have one, and some roof racks a safari basket and a bike rack while I'm dreaming.
Lots of pics here:

I once saw some close-up picture of the mounting system, but I can't find the link for them now. |

I'm pretty sure one of our usuall Vanagon vendors has them..
but my 1980 Riviera came stock with one. haven't used it yet.
and with a kid it seems like a perfect way to get finger prints and a broken mirror.. bring the windex.. |

Using it as a child's cot is one thing, but I see a ton of storage space when parked. I'd like one too. |

My kids are too old for the cot now, but my daughter used to love sleeping in it in my '73 when she was a toddler. It does make a great place to stash everything that was stowed in the bed area while driving.... I used to set it up to hold the soft stuff like clothes, sleeping bags, and pillows while we were in camp. The musical instruments, cameras, and the like went under the cot on the front seats and floor. |

I still have a childs cot from '72 westy....HMMM...So all I would need are the mounting brackets? I like the idea! My 22 month old son is going on his first camping trip next weekend. I think I will research this some more! _________________ '89 Westy - EJ25/22 Frank 4.44 5mt

I went with the one made by Gary Lee, and it's great! We've used it for the drive-ins mostly, so far. That's where my 3 and 5 year olds watch the movie from. As for camping, our youngest son gets the cot and the older boys are up top. Well worth the money, and extremely solid constuction. At one time had three 5-7 year old kids climbing around up there (about 120-130#'s) with no issue. Of course I still threw them out of the van after I caught them, but I was proud of that little cot.
