Last year I had the engine in my 1977 Westy rebuilt and while I had it out I decided to put in a new clutch. Got her back together and she drove her several weeks. She drove great. Life is good! Put her in the unheated garage for the winter and when I got back from wintering in Florida I started her up only to find the clutch would not disengage! Life is not as good! Yesterday I pulled the engine and found the clutch disk stuck to the flywheel and pressure plate with a very light coat of rust. How do I keep this from happening again? Before I pulled the engine, I tried to pop it loose with no luck. Thanks for your help.

I would start it periodically throughout the winter and move it an inch or two. You should do that anyway. _________________ Why Yes it is a Magic bus!

No you shouldn't. Starting it like that is actually worse for a vehicle in storage than leaving it be for the duration of storage, unless you take it out on a good long ride and get it up to temp, you're doing morre damage than good. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

I hear what you are saying but his problem was a stuck clutch and moisture. so what the hell do you recommend he do instead of just throwing out a what not to do? _________________ Why Yes it is a Magic bus!

Well it's a pretty rare occurance, usually fairly easy to fix too, start the bus in gear and drive around with the clutch pushed in.
I guess if you're worried you could manufacture a custom 2x2 or 2x4 to keep the clutch depressed while it's stored, but then I'd worry about the pressure plate springs losing thier mojo. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Just get in it every month or so and push the clutch in a few times. _________________ Joey

Consider this. Go to your local marine store like west marine and but a dehumidfier so you don't get rust. If the pressure plate and flywheel are rusting then that isn't the only problem you have.
Frankly I am Surprised that BusDaddy's solution to break it free failed. I am thinking that it was wet or damp when you put it away? _________________
