|

after reinstalling my vert windows, the door windows have more movement in them front to back than I think they should have. AS they go up they get a little cocked. They don't bind but I have to straighten them by hand to make them align properly. I have new window felt and I have lubed the metal to metal surfaces and ther is new rubber everywhere.
It there a simple fix for this. It seems the aft bracket on the window is not long enough to keep the window straight. One window tilts forward going up and teh other tilts aft. _________________ 79 super Vert

I'm not sure what you mean by "aft bracket". I remember on mine that the rear edge of the glass had a channel that I think slid into a guide in the door that controlled that. Once installed, I think it locks into the guide like a hem, and would control front to back movement. Sorry about the description, I don't know the name of that part. |

Mine has a track at the rear (aft) end of the door. The window frame has a piece of metal on it that slides onto the rear track. It stabilizes the window some but it isn't as if it locks into the track so it stays straight. Maybe I am missing something or something is quite worn. If anyone has a picture of this arrangement, please post it. _________________ 79 super Vert

When installing mine, I messed up the first time and only slid the rear of the glass frame into the guide. I had not put it in so that the guide had a "grip" on it. This gave me the same problem that you are having. I took it out and reinstalled it. Fixed my problem. I would get a closer look at that guide to see that the glass contacts it correctly. |

Behind the window lift channel that the window glass slips into, there are two nuts, one on each side of the slides. You can't see them, but you can reach behind and find them. Loosen those with a 13mm wrench and you will be able to tilt the channel until you get the right pressure for the window to move smoothly with the proper tilt. Remember that the nuts are facing away from you, so turning them to loosen or tighten is the opposite of if they were facing you.
Hold the window in positon with one hand and tighten with the other. That should do the trick. _________________ So much bug, so little time |

I get what "my73vert" is saying, but unless you disturbed those during the process of replacing your scrapers, it is not likely to help with your problem. The guide is there to control the slide of the window. Moving it to suit the window is backwards. |

Your right. I put the windows back in as they were and this problem was there. So I made some adjustments as suggested, but to no avail. I will look at teh track system better today to see if they are mating properly. i think they are. It seems that there should be some sort of plastic guide to help it rather than metal to metal. _________________ 79 super Vert

I bought my 'vert from the PO with the problem similar to flyboat. For years, I tried to figure out how to fix it and stumbled on the solution mentioned in my post a few months ago. Now the window works like new.
I don't know about where you live, but in California the number of potholes and railroad crossings out here are enough to rattle a few nuts loose every now and then. _________________ So much bug, so little time |

whoohoo, I got it fixed. Aparently there was enough wear in the system that there was just too much room for movement.
I removed the bolt in the rear jamb of the door that hold the top of the rear track. I pushed in on the track while operating the window and the window worked good. So I added a thick washer between the track mount and the door metal where the small bolt goes. In other words I shimmed the track toward the front of the car and now the window works good. _________________ 79 super Vert
