Me and my wife are starting that debate, I've been looking at the Bus Depot one which is a good price, compared to the Fiama's scarry price, and having that big round thing on the side of the van. I'm still leaning toward the Shady Boy, which I think is still a little pricey, someone also mentioned that it was not easy getting the Shady Boy back in its case on the side of the van.

I have a Trans-Awn 2000 ( nowdays the 3000) on mine. Yes it does look as if I have a torpedo launcher mounted on the van but it is very secure on the road. It was installed by the PO so I dont know what is involved for installation. It is nice when out and I am able to stuff it away buy myself but two people make the job much quicker. Some people say they are a bit pricey ( around $300 I think) but its all perspective. I dont remember the web address for these but there was a post on this subject about 1-2 weeks ago with the addresses. _________________ 82 Westy: Air is cool! |

Heck, I wouldn't care about the "torpedo launcher" at all if it came with the van. My van was so stock it was sad, all the "modifications" I found where because the PO/PO's had been to cheap to buy real parts. I even got stuck with car tires, and cheap ones at that! _________________ My Art:

I have a Shady Boy awning on my van and I like it alot. It is very light, compact and sets up very easy. The complete unit weighs 15lbs at most. The only problem I have had with it is when the wind picks up. Sometimes the strings are not strong enough to hold the awning from flying up. You can buy poles for it though so you can have it more secure and have it attached to the ground. They come in a few different colors to match your van. Highly recomended if you are on a awning budget.

I thought the Bus Depot one looked like it would suck, in windy Conditions, even my wife thought it looked like a parachute. So does the Shady boy stow away in it's case fairly easly? That's the one I'm leaning toward, anyone know anyone else that sells them other than volks cafe? _________________ My Art:

The Shady Boy awning folds up very easy in its case. You fold the fabric over in thirds put the poles in and roll it up. Than you close the case. Very easy and takes only a few mins to take down and set up. When I bought my Shady Boy I bought it direct from Equinox Sunshine Products. They are from Canada and they make the Shady Boy awning. Country Home Campers also sells the Shady Boy.

I have the Sidewinder II from Carefree of Colorado and like it very much. It is similar in design and price to the Fiama. My local RV store sells carefree so I was able to save on shipping, a big consideration if you're thinking about one of the "torpedo launcher" styles. You must buy the mounting brackets separately and the pop-top will not clear them as they come out of the box. They must be bent outward about 1/4".
BTW - I'm going to be putting my old awning up for sale. Does anyone have the set up instructions for the OLD style Bus Depot sold? This is the model before the current EZ awning. The label on it says Just Kampers.
