|
|
hey there! im a long time vw lover since i watched herbie movies when i was a kid. which wasnt too long ago i guess. but i wanted to start this for mostly photos or if i'm doing something wrong or you guys saw something that i could be doing better. a little back story. i bought this 68 camper in san diego when i was 16 as my first car and shipped home to just south of boston (thanks mom and dad!). i only kept up with the routine maintenance back then and i was lucky to do that. young and dumb you know. unfortunately the past years she has just sat waiting. i'm 27 now and i've held onto her for all these years and have zero plans to ever get rid of her. finally it seems life has given me time and the needed skills to do a full restore. her name is desdemona after the allman brothers song. thanks for looking!
i have many more she's ready for media blast now but i didnt want to put too many in one post.

nice, my bus was my first vehicle at 17 and i never throught of selling it either.
mom would always say, " pote tha to poulisis to folksvagen" which is greek for "when are you going to sell the bus" she would also call it a "pat pat" cause thats the noise it made. i would never really answer that question...
anyhow, im like you , never sold, and brought it out of storage 10 yrs later!
so how far are you taking this thing? full ground up?
if i ever get my own garage i will tear mine down like you're doing there
please keep posting loads of pics! _________________ May of '72 Deluxe. 2.0L L-Jet CS & 091 trans conversion

thanks! yah its been a long time coming. when i bought my house the only thing i really wanted was a garage for this purpose.
the PO turned this thing into a bondo baby and alot of hack jobs. so im going for it. back to bare steel!
im ready for media blast. just waiting for the cash for a rotisserie and the blasting it self.

I sure do admire you east coast guys. Bringing that thing back is great to see. You do know that you are ahead of the curve by putting that much time into a Bay window. Looks Good. |

I just love California Even after 20 years sitting on a mountain side my bus had very little rust I needed to deal with. _________________ Ken

Yah I thought buying it from san diego would have saved me from some rust. Turns out after checking the m-code it originally was destained for New York. So who knows where its been.
That would be an amazing costume! Especially if you wired working lights!! |

Good to see another fellow Mass resident fixing up a Vdub. I was 17 when I bought my bus too. Small world
Make sure you make it over to Stans TransporterFest in Brookline in October and the 2 CT shows in June and August. Always a good time _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb

TransporterFest is ALWAYS worth it but, it packs in quickly so get there early if you're showing. I always miss Litchfield because of family stuff but Terryville makes up for it in August. Lots of good parts and it's nice to see the New England VW community _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb

got some more things accomplished. made a bracket for the motor to fit on the harbor freight engine stand.
i also decieded to work on the underside of the pop-top. started by filling in the gap that sbetween the wood and the side of the top with insta-foam and then fiberglassed over it.
also filled in the vent hole. it didnt come with the outside cover and also no stove. so no need for the vent.
repaired a corner too!
then after some sanding and cleaning a coat of white primer.
