Well about 32 years ago my dad bought this said rail for 700$.
When he bought it, it had a 1600 motor on it and it was nice.
about 30 years ago he pulled it into our yard to tune it up and it didn't run again since this year. about 6 years ago I talked my dad into helping me start rebuilding it. I tore it apart and sanded down the body, and repainted it, dad bought a 1200 cc motor and we put on the buggy, we never could get it running right, it would pop and die and just be a pain... so we parked it.
I started a job at a oil field company as a IT tech and had some "extra" money. So i started rebuilding it again.
This is what it looked like after i pulled it out of the barn after 6 years.

after I got it running i decided i wanted to start wiring it...
I replaced the head lights...
I welded on new brackets to hold on the back lights... on my dads old motor this thing would bolt on under it, but with th 1200 it didn't so I took a torch cut it in half and welded it on the back...

I started getting it street ready, the big 35 super swampers I had on the buggy wouldn't pass inspection so I went to a used tire place in town and found some decent 32's...
also the state of texas requires you to have at least one mirror, so I pulled the old review mirror out of my brothers totaled 92 firebird and welded it on.. haha you can see it in that picture above too. _________________ I feel in love with my buggy when I was a kid, climbing on it, sitting in the seat acting like I was driving it. Also they require you to have a park brake, this thing never had one when my dad 1st bought it and they had it inspected so we rigged one up hahaha... after 20 beers you never know what some rednecks will come up with...

everything was wired to a aluminum plate bolted down with one of the 2 bolts that hold down the gear shift... well I was driving down the road and smelt something funny... I was going up a hill so I started gassing it a bit, and my gas petal fell forward, and then i started to try to stop and hit my clutch and my clutch petal fell forward... I was able to stop and kill it before it burnt up too much... my wires hit each other and started burning up and with it being next to she gear shift it was right above my clutch cable and throddle cable... it cut right through them... so I had to get back home... it cut the throddle cable right next to me so I pulled it up over the gas tank and was able to gas it by hand, and i drove it like a mile that way to get it home... so I pulled into the shop and I started rewiring it... I made a home made dash...
1st switch is off and on, it turns on my coil.
2nd is blinkers
3rd is head lights, tail lights.
4th is a starter button.
5th is a little light to tell me if my alternator is charging...
and my horn is on top _________________ I feel in love with my buggy when I was a kid, climbing on it, sitting in the seat acting like I was driving it. My boss has a 1929 Coup, and our GPS coordinator has 18 55 Chevy cars redone, they like going to car shows...
well there is one in Marshall Texas every 2nd Saturday of the month, so I went with them one day, wasn't able to park next to them but I did park next time a few good looking cars... but yet I was the only dune buggy there, so people would by pass the nice cars to look at mine... haha

To do list:
Fix gas tank (it has a slow leak)
I want to put on a some kind of windshield.
I want to add a radio.
I want to add a toolbox somewhere that I can lock.
I want to put some kind of roof.
I'm thinking about putting sides on it and a hood so I can paint it and put my company logo on it.
maybe one day fix speedometer.
Also I want to rebuild the 1600 that use to be on the buggy, we have it torn apart, just ain't got the cash to fix it right now. _________________ I feel in love with my buggy when I was a kid, climbing on it, sitting in the seat acting like I was driving it. Last night my dad and I took the gas tank off and cleaned it up, found several cracks. Used some good old JB weld to fix the issue.
Gas tank off... _________________ I feel in love with my buggy when I was a kid, climbing on it, sitting in the seat acting like I was driving it. my brake master cylinder, it just a rubber stopper with a little metal tube that goes through it and then the rubber hose connects to that, it leaks badly. Does anyone have any idea on how to get that to stop leaking? _________________ I feel in love with my buggy when I was a kid, climbing on it, sitting in the seat acting like I was driving it. If it was me i would go to a parts store a pick up a new one. i bought a new master cylinder for my buggy last week. it was 30 bucks at autozone. One from a 92 mazda pickup worked for me. firewall mount so it comes with bolts. my two cents |

Well I got bored one day and decided I wanted a radio for my dune buggy so I bought a ammo box took the stereo out of my totaled truck and installed it inside the ammo box, added speakers into the side of the box and boom I had a radio I could use. Its not near loud enough yet but I'm going to add speakers behind the driver and passengers head.
