I'd post in the split forum. Or maybe contact Gary, ie Brezelwerks here on the Samba:

I had to have the Mittelbraun "Middle Brown" color matched when I found numerous hidden and undisclosed problems on a supposedly top restored 50 I now own. You can see several pics of the now re-restored car in my gallery pics. So I had PPG match and archive it under code #3AREB.
For some reason the details in their system were input wrong, as they named it Chestnut Brown in their system and cited it starting in 1957. I let PPG know of the mistake but they never fixed it. At least its now available for folks that want the correct Mittelbraun color, and that code is dead on.
Its really a beautiful color, and seldom seen on splits, always surprises folks how nice this color is when seen in person. The only issue with brown cars is that its a risky venture if the rest of the car and all the fine details are not done to a high standard, the color simply does not flatter an average restoration. The pastel colors however tend to give you more wiggle room (including black to a limited degree), as they tend to distract from other deficiencies on a car at almost any distance due to their brilliance.

Thanks, for the reply, I will contact Brezelwerks for info::
There are a few companies that sell so called standard or stock paints
but, I am a little hesitant in buying paint unseen, also reading posts that
people are not happy with supplies and paint they have bought only steers me away from that more, the color L-70 is a color that you think
would be easy to match, (3 paint shops later) with no success |

Glasurit lists L70 Middle Brown as a 1976-84 color, not sure why. But here are their formulas:
.....and there isn't another brown in the VW color range that is close enough to get away with.

From the Glasurit website https://coloronline.glasurit.com/
Type in Code L70 and let it search. This formula is from the 22 line and is just a small amount.
Test it before ordering a bunch! |
