Hi to all of u guys, I've been reading a lot on this forum lately since my interest in Vanagons (or Transporters to us Norwegians) never quite ends Just thought you all should see this - here is a link to some articles about a guy who apparently lives full time in a non-camper Vanagon outside a College in Oslo I guess the text won't make much sense, but check out the pics - cramped

That does look a little bit cramped. I do like the guys chair though. My wife and I are planning a 3 to 6 month road trip in our Westy in a couple of years. She's more than a little bit concerned about living in such a small space for that length of time. Could be a real trial. _________________ 83 1/2 Westy waterboxer

my wife and i lived in our 72 westy for 3 plus months on our honeymoon, traveled from mazatlan to banff. what a blast, we hiked through the grand canyon n to s rim plus so many other things. we were a bit younger but had a wonderful, memorable time. would do it again if i could ever find the time..space was never a problem, it is a mind set. |

i lived in my 68 bay for 2 years, while attending humboldt, in the 70's
there was quite a group of people living in their vehicles just off campus at that time, a splittie, couple of pickups with shells- 60 willys and a 1962 dodge, even a guy living in a big redwood stump
rentals were expensive and hard to find, as 101 was being expanded and took out alot of cheap student dives
i didnt mind it but not sure i would want to have to do it again
i dont think that it could be done in this day and age _________________ 1987 Syncro Westy

The system loathes independent types. When you live "undesireable" lifestyles, especially when it puts you out of mainstream consumption, you get the bums rush pretty fast.
In Vancouver's false creek there used to be a bunch of boat squatters living free right downtown, under the nose of million-dollar condos. They've been doing this forever, but now they are getting run out of town. Lot's of politics, but you can't tell me the guys paying a gaziilion bucks for the same waterfront view didn't have something to do with it.
Live on the side of the road, sooner or later a cop will be tappin on your window at 3 AM. Bylaws everywhere telling you you can't stay in parking lots overnight, can't stay in parks longer than two weeks, etc, etc. Hell, they even made skytrain stations so cold and windy so homeless folks won't spend the night. Only real option is the bush. |
