Hi all

I'm upgrading my generator to an alternator and this means I need to bypass the standard voltage regulator under the rear seat. To wire the necessary connections ('DF' to '61' and 'D+' to 'B+') without creating ugly splices I have gutted and rewired the existing regulator by soldering in two wires that pass from the outside of the regulator to the inside, as shown in the photos below. I have used a grommet to protect the heavy D+ cable. All of this seems very practical (I think). Does anyone (auto electricians please!) know any good reasons why it would NOT be a good idea to take this approach?

Thank you

Well I gotta give you full points for ingenuity.

It's hidden under the back seat, why worry about a few wire connections being ugly, only you know they are there.

As long as B+ from the alternator is directly linked to the battery and 61 to the warning light it should work fine.
Also make sure all the B+ connections are well insulated.

Be sure to tell any future new owners so they don't go replacing phantom regulators. Laughing

I know this is an old thread but can you show us a photo of the finished product installed?

Thanks!
