recently i have been accidentally shifting into reverse. im not pushing down its a lateral move where it is right next to second and grinding...

also third pops out and it wont even go into first.
(not even when the car is off.)

ps

ive checked the shift rod bushing and the shift rod coupler.

silly question but, did you try adjusting the position of the shift lever? What condition is the shift plate in? Has the 'ski jump' been bent or worn out?

x2 on the lockout plate.
Try to just loosen the plate enough to allow you to adjust the lockout plate just a hair, tighten and try shifting again. May need to use the process of elimination (multiple tries).... Good luck.

pull your gear shifter out and stick your finger in the cup of the shift rod and try to move the rod around. if it has alot of play then it is time for a new shift rod bushing.

no prob man!

btw you wouldnt want me living next door.. my neighbors call me the a$$hole nextdoor... couldnt have anything to do with me mowing my yard and blowing the grass clippings all over his house when he is painting it, and if you think you are going to watch the ball game think again.. my hf radio bleeds over just about anything with a speaker in it for at lest 3 houses around me. lol

anyway back on topic now...

tenseventythree check your trans mounts also! i had to replace the front mount on my baja. it was busted and made the hockey stick not line up right with the shift rod.
