Lots of options to choose from. People have taken and used things like dynamat which are thin little tar like pads you can stick to the metal.

Another option would be the bubble wrap type insulation you can find at home depot, although that is probably better in the side panels and less for sound, although I've got it throughout my bus and it also made it quieter.

Do some searches, this topic has been drug through the ringer and there are even a few websites devoted to it.

I used a product called edead2. Got it on ebay for about a $1.00 and square foot. I bought 120 square feet. I put 2 layers on every surface except the main floor and ceiling.

Stuff was really easy to work with. It was about 30 degrees when I put it in and there was no problem with the adhesivness. Then I used the foil face bubble as Adventurewagen mention. Little spray glue and its good to go.

I'd say about $150 to do my whole bus. Main floor and Roof excluded.

Just do a search on ebay for "sound deading" the shipping was super fast and reliable.

With the dynamat or fatmat, I hear that a 6 inch square in the middle of the panel works as well as putting it everywhere. It converts noise into heat or some such space age craziness.

The Lowe's bubble insulation seems to be in vogue now. Whatever you use the important consideration is that you don't want to trap water against your sheet metal, and rust away your beloved bus.

If you’re on a serious budget, you can use the foam padding that goes under carpet.

You can usually get it for free if you look on craigslist or something like that, and if you pick up a can of spray adhesive, you can sound proof your entire bus for under $10.

He did say "best material" which usually precludes "on a budget". Still craigslist is a wonderful resource for a good deal, a wonderful local deal!

Emailed Ant at second skin audio on Tuesday to get his reccommendation.

Here was his reply, one or two days later tops.

Hello Rick
Thanks for your interest in Second Skin!
We have quite a few customer with your same bus.
Here is what we have found to be the best sound deadening solution:

2 Shop packs Damplifier Pro for all the metal inside the bus
5 Gallons Spectrum as an undercoating and interior coating
6 sheets Heat Wave for floor, firewall and side panels
2 Sheets Luxury Liner - for firewall

This is the ideal way to treat your bus. The results you will notice
will
be absolutely incredible.

Feel free to call me directly with any questions:

I will be happy to set aside some time to discuss your project further!

You can also go to our forum at www.secondskinaudio.com/forums where
there
are hundreds of people with similar cars and goals that are using our
products, they are very happy to help with product selection and
installation techniques. Tons of pictures there too!

I looked at the prices and all total, it will cost about 1000.00 dollars, but I plan on doing it in stages. Ant knows VWs making the process easier. In the end, it is cheaper to purchase the correct products the first time. I currently have expanding foam in my engine hatch and its starting to rust. Confused It was my fault, I saw the Heat Rust and Noise site on the net and pushed forward. Foam was cheap, now I have to either have the damage repaired or buy a new deck lid.
