There's 4 slots for the VW emblem to mount to the hood. Also it's flat in that area, later hoods had a raised circle where the emblem mounts.

Late 1961-early '63 hoods still featured the flat plinth area, but the hood emblem was now a 3-pin style.

Is it possible to have a 62 3 tab hood that has a raised area for the emblem?

No, what RareAir posted is the correct info. You should have a three-hole hood without the raised section. The emblem that goes on it is actually the 4-tab style emblem but with a plastic insert with the three pins.

No they don't sell the insert separately, not that I've ever seen at least.

Actually someone makes, or at least, used to make, at mid 61-early 63 smaller emblem in a "solid" style, I bought one at a swap meet a few years ago:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

(Also, in a pinch, if you modify one of the three mounting holes, you can make a type 3 emblem work on there.)

no- but a 63 (after oct1962)-66 hood could have been fitted.
