I was wondering if I use the cool tin that you put under the cylinders prior to installing the pushrods do you still use the lower tin and deflectors that are secured in between the center head studs. Thanks for any help

You do not use the air deflectors if you are using the type 4 style cooling tin between the cylinders and pushrods. I have those on one of my engines and I have the lower tin on it (the tin that attaches to the heat exchangers).

@juno, are you referring to super cool tins? Are you putting this in a type1 engine setup?

Yes its the super cool tin sold by scat and bugpack. It installs under the cylinders prior to the push rod tubes.

I used that setup here in the desert along with a type iv cooler
in my 67 camper fully loaded and it works good even in 110+ heat.

Use Type 1 deflectors. Those "cool tin" are designed for Type III engines...different cooling system design. Check with Jake Raby on this one, he's done some testing and can probably offer a bit more insight.

Read the article i wrote on it here

http://www.superbeetles.com/Tech_talk/jan2.htm

It touches on Type IV and Type I....

You can thank "Johnnies speed and chrome" for those tins, and the stories that surround them.
