|
|
Hey all
My turn signal on my 66 wasn't working, so I got a replacement (German) and installed it. Works great now but it doesn't self cancel - is the canceling ring something that I can replace or does the entire assembly need to get swapped out? Couldn't tell if it was supposed to be within the assembly housing or something that the housing slides over.
Thanks

My 1965 has a signal canceller that attaches to the steering wheel hub. It has a tab that trips the cancelling mechanism.

Yeah, that is pretty much on every VW made 1960 to 1970 steering wheel, and while I did link to an image showing it above, it's so common to see I didn't think putting the image in directly was necessary.
However, that begs the question: is this a VW steering wheel or non-stock? Non stock steering wheels may have a couple of dowel pins for this function, or they might not even be there at all. _________________ Andy T.

Thanks to you both. It's not a stock steering wheel - I'll pull it again tomorrow and see if it has a canceling ring on it or not. |

Thanks again for the assistance - I took the steering wheel off (it's a repro, similar to this one https://www.jbugs.com/product/113-WHEEL-BLACK.html...gKd2vD_BwE ) and realized it did not have the canceling ring installed!
Thanks again |

Cool, you figured it out. I guess I should have stuck the image of the cancel ring in directly! And if it's equivalent to stock, I assume that the mounting holes for the cancel ring are present. |
Yes the mounting holes (threaded) are in place already, my ring fit on perfectly - just a matter of getting the clearance between the steering wheel and turn signal assembly right so the ring fits into the assembly enough to trigger the canceling springs. |
