Are the 1/4 vent windows installed like the flat glass with a seal?
Assemble the window wrapped with the seal. Wrap a string in the inner part ofv the seal
Press against the assembly in from the outside. Pull the string out and then inner seal lip wraps around the window rib.
That about it?

first, you need to get your headliner done as it glues in that channel
the vent windows get installed by lining up the frame with the 2 notches in the sill lip and slam it forward. make sure it seats in all the way.
the window goes in like any other window....rope soap pull and spank _________________

You only have to do that bendy tab deal if you are removing a vent when the big window is in place, if everything is out put the vents in first (there's notches in the pinchweld to clear the tabs), and then install the main glass. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Yes, the headliner is going in now.
Only dry fitting the wing and determining the method etc… wanted to make sure i had all the parts to install. _________________ My Toys: '75 Porsche 914, '92 Ski Nautique and now a 1972 VW Transporter Deluxe (punch list fixing) |

So it seems that the whole frame is pushed in from the outside and the lip of the seal is pulled into place from the inside. I have done that many times on other cars.
However, the pic below with the hand lifting the lip of the seal..... none of my window frames have notches for access to the screw. What is up with that?
They all have notches on the top of the frame tho.

Have the window openings been repaired for rust?, there's usually a notch top and bottom. But now that you bring it up I seem to recall not being able to get at that screw even on virgin buses, luckily it's not hard to pop the window out if it ever needs adjustment. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

found the video below. Took a snip at about 1:13. This is a 74 and he has no pinch bolt head access either. seems the btm notch should be a couple inches right of the white bar.

Just put the vent and large window in my `70 slider and indeed NO cut out access at bottom to adjust the vent wing tension. I pondered cutting or drilling a hole but my door is freshly painted and I decided against it for now. I adjusted the screw to good tension and installed it.
Checked my 71 parts bus and no access in that either.
Glad to hear I am not the only one with this odd issue. |

UPDATE..... i tried, maybe 10 times. I could NEVER get both windows in at the same time. I could get 100% of the vent in and maybe 75% of the 3/4 glass. So i ditched the idea of having a vent on the drivers side rear window. Both rear sides will be 100% glass. One side slipped right in. The drivers side took ALOT of work to get the seal to seat.
My helper and I inched our way around the seal, pulling the weed wacker string out as we went. Wore out an old rubber hammer. It just turned to dust.
It seems that as the lip popped into place, it gave the seal a tiny bit more room to seat until we got to the last inch and then we had a beer to celebrate. _________________ My Toys: '75 Porsche 914, '92 Ski Nautique and now a 1972 VW Transporter Deluxe (punch list fixing)

It's sad that the new seals lately are so damn hard, your description of that job brought back flashbacks of myself, and a helper with years of tough glass experience, fighting a middle and rear side window for a few hours a couple years ago. We are talking big ratchet straps through the pillars to pull it back, and boards and jacks between the bus and the shop wall to force it in enough to get the lip started over the pinchwelds. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

BUT YOU GOT IT? I really wanted to get the 1/4 vent in on that side, but there was just no way. The full glass was tuff as hell too. I figured the 3/4 and 1/4 vent had more to do with getting the 1/4 vent snug. Those damn tabs is what I figured keep it from allowing the 3/4 glass in. But truthfully the seal on the 1/4 vent seal looked perfect.
Oh well, screw it, I will be driving anyway. Won't need that vent. _________________ My Toys: '75 Porsche 914, '92 Ski Nautique and now a 1972 VW Transporter Deluxe (punch list fixing) |

Yes, but after a couple hours I was almost considering pulling the plug on the job, I just wasn't going to take no for an answer, what a fight.
It still took a couple months to settle in fully, every time the bus came by I'd give the windows a few bashes to seat them in further. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
