In the USA this was a pretty rare accessory in 1965. Most beetle owners at that time just filled the bottle with air directly. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Crystal Lake, IL |

True that. You would be stock by NOT having the hose for 65. I used a bicycle pump to pressurize the tank on my 65. Worked better than the spare tire hose set up on my 79 because I was missing the check valve that kept the spare tire pressure from dropping, and so I would have a flat spare and no washer pressure, a DOUBLE bonus! _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

I feel lucky to have my accessory hose connection in my 62 - I bought it from a customer who had it lying around the trunk of a narrow-eye baja bug that didn't even have a spare or a washer bottle and so, had no need for it, and didn't even know what it was. |

I have a pile of air tanks, hoses, and parts... find out what you need and maybe we could work something out. _________________ Don't delete my posts. |

THREAD JACK!!
Ok- Since we've discussed the pressure itself, my question concerns the operation of the button. In my 66 I have the washer switch with the button in the middle, but the button is immobile. Isn't it supposed to move to get the pressure moving the fluid?
Thanks |

The button is sort of spring-loaded. If it won't push in, the rubber has turned rock hard inside - the valve is bad in other words. Too bad new switches are pretty expensive! |

Screw the purists LOL - get the Mexican bug reservoir/electric pump then hook a miniswitch to the wiper switch to activate it. Looks stock from inside and looks stock under the hood unless someone knows that they didn't come with them. But only available in 12V. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

I like the idea of using the 12V electric pump no more flat tires for me. _________________ 66 Standard, 1776, sitting on the ground |

If the valve on the bottle is working properly, it should cut off the washers at about 28 psi, and you won't have a flat spare. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

yeah I know how it is supposed to work, but sometimes my spare would be flat, I do not have that same kind, the one installed in my ride came out of a 73 super, and it will drain the tire. _________________ 66 Standard, 1776, sitting on the ground |

You can have that setup and still be a purist. I have an NOS electric washer pump on my 62 of the type that was installed by dealers as an option. The button on the washer knob now activates the electric pump. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Well, I don't know about being a purist or anything - lots of non-original stuff on my car. But the air-powered washer setup, I've had very little problems with it over the years. |

I guess I am a wimp with the air set up. I had a neighbors 71 bug that was missing everything, so I got a NAPA universal set up and did a pushbuttom on the dash. Worked really nice. So, when I did another neighbors 74, it was dumping washer fluid all under the dash once I hooked everything up. I did the same thing except I used the stock reservoir. On my 65, I lifted a great idea from a samba poster and installed a mini pushbutton swith on the wipe switch so the button in the center of the knob activates it.
Looks bone stock and works well, plus the mexican washer reservoir is much larger. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.
