Hi Rustavenger,

How does this CSP competition evo system compare vs a A1 sidewinder or a CSP Python ? Have you had one of those on your engine before to give a comparison ?

I have a CSP python. It is soooo loud that even with noise insulation in the car it gets annoying for longer drives.

I like the competition evo but don't want to give up performance.

My engine : 2276, 86b, 44x38 mid-D heads and IDAs

Any quality issues on the competition evo ?

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,
The EVO installation is pretty straight forward. The only issue I had was with the 1/3 lower exhaust fasteners. The exhaust bend is rather tight right off the head. I used m8x10mm hex flare nuts to clear the tubes.
Otherwise, the exhaust was a bolt on deal, no fiddling with ill fitting exhaust flanges.

In the video I posted, The engine at t time was a 2180, Tims S2 heads, 86b.
All you are really hearing in the video, is the roar of the 45 Dellorto's at full throttle. The Jetta I was racing against was completely stock.

CSP designed the EVO exhaust based off the Wasp system. What quiets the exhaust down is the dual muffler system post collector.
When driving the car, it's quieter than the old EMPI cheapy hideaway header and muffler I had originally installed.
We have a 103db noise limit at PIR Saturday night drags. I have never been called out for being too loud. Wink

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Do you have to remove the mufflers to adjust valve play?

I like the peeshooter look of it.

Short answer, No.

But it takes 5-10 minutes to remove the mufflers for better access.
Three allen collector flange fasteners, four rubber vibration hangers, and the mufflers are on the ground.

To the original poster of this thread........ Now that you've had the CSP for a while, are you still happy with it? Getting ready to order one and thought I would see what you thought first! Thank you.

I really like it. The only thing that I added is I had heater box flanges welded to the muffler.

I want an exhaust that will come out the back of the car through the pea shooter cut-outs, connect to heater boxes, and offer some flow for a 1900

The CSP does all of this.

But the mugbug was asking about the OP's system. Not the CSP EVO Competition system.

The OP was complaining about the welds... I can say that they are really nice on the system I worked on.

On a system that required me to sell my kidneys I would hope it would be perfect. Laughing I did not exactly expect perfect welds on the one I bought.

CSP or VS. The main difference is the manufacturer and the way they weld

I got to see a VS muffler last week and I agree the welds are nicer on the VS.

I have been running the CSP muffler for a week. It is slightly more throaty than the stock Kadron. My butt dyno says I have a little more grunt with the addition of this muffler. The CIP1 hardware sucked, but I believe the muffler was worth the cost.

Still running this exhaust and still happy with it?

Considering it for a 1776 with single 40 IDF, so it's nice that it has provisions for good manifold heating. I don't expect this engine to produce more than 90HP anyways, so it should work out well and retain the stock look. Currently have a 1-3/8 header and quiet pack but don't like the look and reduced ground clearance.

I happen to like this exhaust system, manifold heat is good, it has a pleasant exhaust note thru my TDE tailpipes. I cut the intake manifold heat pipes, drilled the carbon out with a long 3/8 drill bit and re-welded them back on.works great. Fits great, tips exit correctly

You have the vacuum advance hose hooked up at the wrong location on the carb. It should be on the left side, forward of the spring.

Yup, it's a brosol/solex H30/31 carb. These carbs do not have the
Proper vacuum signal at the normal side position.
The rear vacuum position has nearly the right amount of vacuum.

It's been covered here on the samba.
Edit. I plan to try a 1500 style distributor which requires less vacuum
Which this carb supplies, but this project is on the back burner for now
As I finish tuning the bus engine.

Good eye but it's not a 34pict3.

Cheers and thanks

Thanks for the feedback. It seems you had no issue clearing the #2 and #4 runners with heater hoses. That's good.

Hi -

Can anyone with a CSP exhaust of any model please tell me how far the closest tube gets to the pulley please?

I have a custom engine mount that is 3-4cm from the pulley...

Thank you

I've just recently mocked up a CSP Bus exhaust.

Note, the pulley is not fully on

Please tell us, what the issue is that you are having with the pulley clearance to header is.
It appears that there is plenty of room to clear the header based on the image above.

By the way, That's some Mastercraft tin fitment you have done on your engine mockup. Applause

Hello sir

Thank you for your reply

The image I posted isn't my engine.

I have a 1916cc going in a 912 Porsche. The rear mount I have is 3-4cm from the pulley and connects to the bottom of the case via a crossmember that straddles between the chassis rails up top in the engine bay.

Now I need a exhaust upgrade and I don't even know if a stock muffler will fit!
