Happy 4th!
I wasn't expecting the plastic dash cover to be glued down. Probably naivety on my part, but I was pretty bummed when I undid the dash grab handle and it didn't move at all. I probably should have checked beforehand, but at that point, it was it was and I wasn't going to leave it that way. Off it came and what was underneath was not pretty.
I've had this uncracked wrap-around dashpad that I got from Mario for 10 or so years. Whenever I moved, special care had to be taken. They are a pain to store when not moving. Yesterday I said eff it and put it in. Sometimes I don't know why I'm keeping some of these parts, or what I will end up doing with them. Life is too short to hoard some of this stuff. This is it I suppose...I gotta use 'em. Anyway, there's one less uncracked dashpad out there in a closet, and one more in a Type 3 where it belongs.
Cheers.

Well the og one was pretty roached. Bless your heart for considering it.
Nothing like nice parts to put on your T3. That turned out nice. _________________

See, it has begun again... first the dash, then the seats, then maybe a little repainting... then full-on restoration! Stop the madness now while you still can!
(teasing aside, a shitty dash does not look "vintage," it just looks shitty. Good choice here!) |

Nah...
But for real, after talking with Pedro, the wife has to feel comfortable in it, right? And these old covers are itchy!
The plan is German square weave carpet, find some rubber mats (fingers crossed!), do the seat covers, and figure out the headliner situation. The headliner is pretty nice for its age, but they really mangled the front part when they replaced the windshield seal. The front panel is a bit untucked, and the A-pillar pieces are missing completely. Maybe I can fudge it a little. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

HA! Those covers are prime real estate compared to what's currently in my notchback.. I still get my girlfriend in the car, surprisingly although... she's given me plenty of crap for it and even put a blanket down at times.. _________________ 1964 safari beige (L563) notchback 1500 S

Yeah...just doing some stuff behind the scenes. I'm trying to track down a nice set of early wheels that I can repaint. I bought the paints, just need to find the wheels so I can get those done and swap them out. I'm working with Mario on a set of rubber floor mats, just gotta get them from Germany to San Jose, which is gonna be tough. Slowly moving forward...
With this one car garage, if I sell the Notchback I can bring this Squareback home. Anyone want a Ruby Red Notchback? _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Oddly enough, the price is equal to a 1965 Ruby Red sunroof Squareback.

Now that’s funny.
Glad to see you’re still working on it. I know how time can get away from you. 🤙🏼 |

I finally found some original red coco mats for the Square. Timing worked out so I picked them up at OCTO.

Many thanks to Martin (ALLWAGONS) for sending me the link to these original Clay Beige / Pearl White wheels right after they were posted. This community is awesome. They were pricey and I paid the, "Damnit I need these," tax. I didn't notice in the pictures that they have had holes drilled in them for hub cap clips...maybe someone thought they were Bus wheels? Not a huge deal once the hubcaps are on. They will be runners until I paint up the set that's on the Squareback.

Earlier this week I got a random text from a new friend:
"I heard you were looking for wheels. Are you still looking?"
"Got any pics? I just bought a full set."
Well, yesterday I picked up another full set of painted wheels that were on a very nice 1962 Notchback. It's a small world and I'm thankful that I have some awesome friends always on the lookout.
Also, the rubber mats from Mario arrived so I need to get back on this thing... _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red
