hi Gang,
A couple of tourists smashed the oil pan on their 2010 Tiguan 4 motion van into a large rock down a old Forestry road and they called and I drove out to inspect it--The engine will spin but not run.
The engine sounds like a load of rocks in a cement mixer.
I pulled 12 fault codes
I figure one of the lower chains came off - the top cam chain is still on and tight.
I'm in the process of dropping the engine and want to leave the transaxle in place.
From what I've read on the net pulling the axles out of the front wheel bearing will make it hard to move without damaging the front wheel bearings with out having the axles in place.
I have it on my 2 post hoist and want to get it out of the shop asap--just to have the pleasure of seeing what went wrong I'll want the engine on the engine stand.
Separating the engine and transaxle is my question
Waiting for a junkyard engine if possible
thanks

Torque converter bolts are accessed by removing starter.
Pop the outer CVs off & bolt them back into the hubs.
Getting a junk yard engine for that turd is setting yourself up for failure, they all need chains after 70k, most will drink 1qt oil every 1,000mi after 90k.
Put new chains, guides, & tensioners in replacement engine.
It is absolutely imperative that the engine codes match & year range is close. VW used a different crank trigger ring in several of the engines, get the wrong one & your shit won’t run. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
