This came from the factory like this! It looks like some amateur did a sloppy color change and just let the paint blow under the hood.

My guess would be the car was slightly damaged in shipment

My thought as well, something minor repaired by the lowest bidder.

It's not a repair job- this is how VW is doing it now. Take a look at this video-

Why is the underside of the hood and the inside of the engine compartment black? Are those parts plastic? Or do they paint the whole car in black primer and then only spray color on the visible outside panels? As you can see in the video, the mk 7.5 was body-color everywhere, just like every VW since the beginning of time.

It’s metal, not plastic, just not painted the body color. This is incredibly sloppy work! It looks like crappy DIY bodywork a car when it’s 20 years old and you just want to drive it another year. I can’t believe any manufacturer would do this! If they didn’t want to paint under the hood body color, at the very least make it a clean line!

^^^This!^^^

That is absolutely a re-spray after it left the factory! Just because you bought it new does not mean it has not been damaged and repaired. Go back to the dealer and open a few more hoods.

It is not a re-spray. This is how VW is sending them out these days.

It's not just sloppy paint jobs, it's poor quality paint too. My 2016 GTI doesn't have 30,000 miles on it, but looking at its front-end you would think otherwise, and 90% of the chips are from local driving (thank you, AZ) because it wears a bra on road trips. Just looking at the car the wrong way will put a friggin' chip in the paint. Mad Rolling Eyes

Quality control hasn't been in VW's business model for a few decades now. Confused

I find it very hard to believe that they would paint them AFTER assembly. That is obviously what has happened there!

That link doesn't prove anything. It's just a bunch of dopes on a forum claiming to know what's going on at the factory.

About 10% of cars need rework after painting in the auto industry.
