<snip>...... So since this is apparently marketed as easier and more fool-proof then the Bostig conversion.....
Am I just reading that wrong?

Its all relative. Perhaps just the diesel intercooler install is comparable
to an entire Bostig conversion.
.....there's a LOT more to a Diesel conversion than the intercooler install
But there are LOTS of capable hardheads who enjoy a complex project. _________________

My feeling is that one day your conversion regardless of type will strand you. The more you can do yourself through the conversion, the better suited you will be for when that day comes. The reason is, the likelyhood a shop would take it in stock is remote enough without saying by the way, it has "X" engine installed. You will need to fix it yourself. |

Claims of "more reliable" require many levels of YMMV.
I've destroyed 2 motors and several gearboxes over 105,000 miles in the learning / spending / renewing / upgrading process.
Currently I think of my conversion as "more reliable than stock" but there were some long spells where I did not think that way. _________________

Lol. Def not a “plant”.
Install was a private mechanic, if he wants me to share his info i will. He has 15+ years experience working on vanagons and has done dozens of conversions, from kits to piecing together his own ABA. His day job also has him wrenching on modern VW so this motor was in his wheelhouse. He was very impressed with the kit.
While I have done a ton of work on my van myself and may have attempted this conversion on my own, i sure am glad i had a professional complete. Plenty of things to consider that is good to have someone knowledgeable make you aware and talk through with. From deciding to put in new fuel tank, to intercooler heat x placement , to going with diesel bellhousing (no adapter plate needed)and all the little things needed to make that work. His work was top notch. |

I gotta say, in this murky situation, any claims that can't be independently verified are suspect.
And, and "hey I got this solution (a mechanic that can do this certain thing) but you can't get this same solution" are worthless since it does not provide a solution to those that have struggled with this product.
Unless those two points get straightened out, the post still may be a plant that either tries to make this product process more feasible than it actually is...or the post is irrelevant since the needed solution is not available to anyone but the original poster.
Wouldn't one think if the mechanic can make work what others want but can't make work that the mechanic could have an extremely good business that would eclipse any other ventures he might have in the mechanic realm?
Post is still suspect to me especially considering the history around experiences with Boxeer.
..... Also curious @e.facchinei - what is your history with Vanagons and what was your journey to deciding on boxeer and why have we not heard from you before your post that resurrected this topic?
In addition to pictures, t would be helpful to get a real accounting of total costs of your successful install in both money and time. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace
