..why is it that I can spend hours upon hours dinking with the little things on my bus (fuel lines including that awful one to get to, re-wiring the fridge, replacing wheel bearings, replacing the vacuum lines, and all sorts of little stuff) and actually enjoy this quality bonding time between owner and bus.

Yet have the patience of a gnat when it comes to working on her Subaru Outback? Question

I told her the Outback just has no soul. She gave me that wierd look that I have seen before, and let me get back to happily cleaning out the heater blower motor. I felt re-enlightned when it atually worked without blowing the fuse. Many times I have retunred from a trip with a better bus than when I left.

I think the thing I like most about the bus is that there are little successful acomplishments where you feel that you have really made something better in just a couple of hours.

Saw a bumper sticker somewhere that said, "This car cost me my marriage." I am not there, but thought it was clever.

Thoughts on this or perhaps a snappy comeback if it comes up again?

Let her drive the bus for a week to find out for herself, but be careful, you might not get your bus back! Jeremy

One of the biggest rules on a marriage;" never argue with the wife". In fact is the second rule. The first one is: "never invite the mother in law home". Take her point of view buddy. The same love and affection you have for your BUS , she has for her SUBARU!!!!! Shocked ,YUCKKK!!!!. Remember that like it or not, the wife is the one who chooses to let you go on a SUNDAY to a show or not, so keep her happy. Just kidding!!!!!, I now that feeling of satisfaction when something new is done to your ride, specially a VW BUS. Twisted Evil

" That's why you married me, sweetheart, I have that sensitivity thing. . . "

And what you say is right on. An air-cooled VW is worthy. I tried to work on the four cylinder smoking rusty claptrap GrandAm once. Never Again.

Randy, Try this.

"Honey, I don't have the special tools needed to work on your car. I'll have to spend at least a grand on the Mac Tool truck to get what I need. But I'll do it just for you because your so wonderful."

Worth a shot.

Dude, been there. Our 98 Outback would not start yesterday. Open the hood and forget it. More electrical wires than engine hoses. Even though the bus has some electronics it is nothing compared to these new cars.

Good thing is my wife loves the bus. ( and loves that I do all the work on it too.)

I like the tool come back too. More tools the betta.

Randy, speaking as a chick, I have to tell you that having a thing about caring for your bus beats any number of other habits. Wink

You're not connected to the Subaru in any way, shape, or form. It is difficult if not impossible to work on, and no, it doesn't have a soul.

I hope you're off the hook and don't need any further comebacks.

Tell her this:

At least when I'm in the garage working on the bus, you know where I am. It's not like I'm at the bar chasing skirts around Very Happy

Some guys play golf, some guys work on their bus (lately I haven't done either) Smile

Too bad the CL is going away. What a super car! The S with 6MT is awesome.
