for brand labels there's bosch or varta
old moulded-in style
here's a pic of the battery in place where the cover is held down with spring clips that hook into tabs on the floor. 1951
pre 48 the cover looked like this and the clips were mounted front and back

here's another photo, the +ve cable isn't fitted but you can see the grommet where it goes through to the starter at the back of the floorpan. also hoe the rubber mat is shaped around the battery

all these pictures are for a 52 and earlier , then it went to a different size battery and used a metal strap instead of springs to hold it down .... it depends on the year your looking or working on ???? |

i really like the label on that one = fist grabbing volts!
if i'm not overstaying my welcome on this topic . . . .
any chance of (1) dimension for this battery or the size of the tray it sits on? i can massage the other dimensions to look right.
is there a top view of just the battery for cell cap & bus bar (?) layout i could beg?
and, since i'm all in on this one - a 53 to 57 battery just for variety?
these will go in the garage diorama being planned.
thanks for all & any further help.

footnote . . . circa 1969. my '58 was a complete surf wagon. i blacked out the rear side windows and removed the seat cushions. then i found a metal covered kitchen table one day when i was toodling down a dirt road looking for a spot to whiz.
half the table, it slid apart to accommodate a center leaf, fir perfectly across the back where the seat cushion was. so now i had the ultimate "change into my wetsuit in the parking lot" vehicle.
except the first time i sat on it the battery shorted out!
the metal wrapped around far enough to touch the "bad parts". . . |

Car battery, 6 volts, 66 Ah.

oval batteries would be the same but the cover/battery was held down by a strap _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

short answer - I dunno!
but looking around there is this short thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=574504&highlight=battery+cable+strap
plus looking at photos and battery covers it seems that the cable clamp was used with the battery cover that had a cut-out for the +ve cable at the rear. possibly late split early oval time. maybe others more knowledgeable can chip in. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut
