What is the best way to wash, clean, refresh the exterior paint on my 67 bus? I'm thinking it is the original paint except for maybe some touch up spots my father may have had done in the 70s. What should be done or never done with original paint?
Thanks in advance to all the experts here. |

No one responded so I'll give it a go.
I'm certainly no expert :
Do not use soap for dishes or clothes, get one specific for autos. It mite seem expensive but only a tiny amount is needed. I had a large bottle last several years.
I got a bucket with a raised grate in the bottom & a fuzzy wash mitt. I dried it with a genuine chamois found at a barn sale. Ideally before a good wax is used it should be evaluated for oxidation.
My L65K Ravenna Green '74 had very light oxidation so I used a Mirror Glaze as the rubbing compound was too aggressive.
I used a cheapy buffer from WallyWorld as I was using too many cans of Elbow Grease.
I didn't have the patience for a Clay Bar but some people swear by them.
Some types of pains benefit from a rejuvenator. I think these have special conditioners that are very beneficial for single stage paint jobs.
All these are based on a FULLY cured paint job.
I have seen the horrors of not waiting.

I've seen good results from wet sanding original paint with 2000 grit and then buffing. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Thanks for the suggestions. I need to get it out of the storage building to get good pictures. Maybe I will have time and good weather for that this weekend. |

Sorry no photos yet. I had great weather but too many family events scheduled to get anything else done. Thanks for your patience. |

I finally got the bus out and got some pictures. Thanks again for any suggestions on reviving old paint.
