Any one else here build models before applying your dreams to a real car? I have several sets Both 1:16 scale Lowlight Ghia and several later model Ghia's in 1:24th scale. I will be doing a build thread her for my model builds, and since the are Karmann Ghia specific thought i would share on our forum space. So follow along as I build a scale model of what I would like my real care to look like.
Also Please share you builds with me. I always love to se what your working on. _________________ So Many Hobbies,

This is the kit I'm starting with in 1:24 scale to build a replica of my 68, and how I want it to look.will be starting on fit ups soon and will have Pictures as I build.
And then these two. Probably the only way I will ever own a lowlight Ghia. Currently searching for some after market resin parts for a custom style build. _________________ So Many Hobbies,

I am going to be getting one of these too. How did you like the build? Any pictures of the finished car? _________________ So Many Hobbies,

Here you go.
I wish I could fit that wheel tire combo on Sophia

I don't fit in VWs any more due to height, but grew up with them and started driving in them. Anyway, I do build models and there is a dedicated topic https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=498549 for builders and here's my most recent completion. Not a Ghia though. I did have a Gunze Sangyo Ghia, but sold it. Not a good model. I need to get the Tamiya Ghia and a '66 Revell Beetle.

This is one my son bought me. This was a Christmas gift from several years ago. It's got a $14 price tag on it. This will be my first VW build I've posted here. Anyway, it's a re-release of one of the Deal's Wheels caricature cars from the seventies. I built a few back then, no paint of course, and none of them survived, but I never built this one. They were always fun, easy builds. Except I'm not much at painting figures. Comes with a magnifying glass to view the tiny 3.6 HP VW flat four.
Threw it together after the paint, just get a feel for how it would look

Being an r/c racer I just had to have this. Went with the two tone to match my real Ghia. Also had to get the led kit (added the tag lights myself), and couldn't resist the licence plates from r/c plates.com. I plan to get the turn signals to light up as well. No, this will never see a racetrack. But it IS an r/c car, and r/c cars were meant to be driven. _________________ Can't have everything.....where would you put it? |

Do you keep the body on by magnets? The kits I have seen were held on by clips and looked kinda dorky

Very nice
The lighting is a great touch.
I attach the body to chassis with magnets. Those clips do detract from the build.

I used the tamiya led kit part # tlu-01. I added the tag lights with "z" size leds from Evans Designs.
For the body, I just used velcro. Had to cut the body post down a bit more. No way was I gonna drill holes in the hood! _________________ Can't have everything.....where would you put it? |

And here is a resin kit of the motor going in my 1:24 scale Ghia. Also got one in 1:16. It is a flat four with a Porsche style fan shroud kit.
