That car is calling for a pair of the round taillights used on an Opel GT or Opel Manta from the early 1970's. |

I looked at a lot of stuff..... some things very much like the opel. Now as it is taking shape they would be a decent choice. But I chose the VW tail lights.
Euro style bus lights, separate amber turn.
They are going to be sideways.... but he a little VW looking.
Of course re pros.

... I have bus tail lights that might get mounted sideways ...
After all your work on a nice low chasis, mid-engine, great looking wheels and everything; bus tail lights? My suggestion was going to be: Find something sexy (e.g. Lexus style), and then mold the top two rear corners to fit:
Your bus tail light actually looks pretty good, thanks to being 2-tone (red & amber). Could maybe round out top rear corners to match?

Making bucks.... will eventually have some shape to it to lay fiberglass on. Of course all the wood/ECT will be removed after. No wood in the body.

There are a lot of good modern type choices, and that would be something I would do ...... if.
The whole thing is supposed to look like a mid 60's racer. I came very close to a sideways modern drivetrain, but after much consideration decided to be more retro racer instead of modernized kit car.
All this thing is yester-tech and has no creature comforts at all. _________________

Looks like I am going to keep the rear body line edge.
I always liked the swoop, but if I felt like it would not fit into the scheme of things I would change it.
So more of my folks here like it than not, I am keeping to the original idea of keeping the swoop.
Making bucks and smearing plaster of Paris.
Not looking to make a reusable plug, but instead just destroy it out of there
.Formed up the upper half into the existing lines and started on bucks to make the rounded tuck under lower half. Making the tail light area reminiscent of my old Cuda (that is long gone). _________________

Have not taken a lot of pics of where I am now but I have been working on that hood.
Wood bucks, foam, plaster, ECT to get to a rough shape
Fiberglass has been layed on the outside and the mold destroyed out of the inside
The inside is all ground and prepped to start laying the thickness to the new rear end
I kept the swoop, but the sharp edge is gone, not as big of a radius as in front of wheel. The back corners are radiused off as is the top edge. _________________

It looks like a mess right now, but it is taking shape.
The big parts are done. Next is some details to glass in and then the smoothing/body and paint begins.

Steady working on the details of the hood frame, inner fenders, mount tabs, ECT.
Bits and pieces of progress.

You may be thinking that your are talking to yourself in your thread.
I can assure you, that at least one person is checking every new post of your car.
I admire your skills to put something like your car together.
Keep up the great work. It'll all come together in no time. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Hey thanks y'all.
Nice to know someone cares.
I don't usually get a lot of reply on my threads here (my trike build ECT). I have gotten some here lately, ideas pitched, thoughts and direction and all that.
Thanks again.
The murder cycle had way more machine shop one off work in it than the car, but so far the car has had more impact on people in general. _________________

It's not the replies so much....your Views are doing well at almost 50,000.
I'm watching too.
Buggies and kit cars are such a personal thing when building......There are many variables in the project so commenting or critiquing is not anybodies place really....
I enjoy watching how someone handles the challenges in their own way.....
There are soooo many ways to accomplish a build but in the end it is how you yourself see it through your own eyes......who cares how someone else thinks it should be.
You're doing a great job...... _________________

It don't make a bunch good pictures, but some more done.
Some more mount tabs, inner fender flaps, ECT all glassed in.
Then the frame removed ànd sitting in the weld shop, I will get to it one evening.
The inside of the hood is all ground in and ready for the next round of fiberglass. The white area needs some more layers. The inside of the scoops seams and the red fiberglass angles need glasses in on this side.
So nearly have the hood construction done..... then next is the smoothing. Thinking of smoothing the inside also..... it is something that will be seen

I did get the fiberglass layed up on the hood underside.
Even started sanding..... then got sick with the flu the wife brought home from a wake.

A newer walk around.
Still working on that hood..... some progress..... but the wife has been terribly sick with hospital stays and all that.
So just not much time to work on the hobby stuff.
I will eventually get it done...... just delayed right now.
