Every time I've had this problem, luckily, the solution was to adjust the pin on the body of the van. Just like RMCD did in the picture a few posts back. First, trace position with a marker, then adjust. I think it's a 16mm wrench. Hopefully it's that simple, good luck. Also, I'm pretty sure I have a few late model latch mechanisms, that I could spare one if you need. PM me if it comes to that. |

Reporting back great success after grinding the latches. I just did a camping trip in Anza Borrego on some of the most aggressive washboard I've driven and the latch held exactly as it should and didn't rattle open.
I filed away a bit of material where I drew the red to make the two faces that meet more like a hook. The door still opens with normal force on the handle.

Struggling with this issue. Have tried all adjustments and installed the gowesty latch rebuild kit. Problem seems worse after the rebuild. Sliding door won't fully latch when closing and occasionally releases to the safety catch when driving.
It seems that there's not enough friction/tension when it's fully latched. A tap on the door and I can see the lower latch mechanism slide down; another tap and it releases. I will try filing as suggested in other posts but I wonder if the springs included in the rebuild kit just aren't up to par or if I've somehow installed them wrong.
I'm assuming the lock housing shouldn't be resting on the latch pin when closed, correct?

Filing as per others suggestion worked or at least seems to work for now. Wonder if it's the slight reshape of the joining surfaces or the increased friction from roughing the surface... |
