Awesome, thank you! I searched but apparently was using the incorrect terms.

Anyone know the hole size to drill for a press fit?

I don't know first hand cause I just measure the nut and go from there , I would wait till you have it in your hand and measure.

From memory (and it was a while ago, 15yrs) it will press fit into the standard factory hole, no drilling necessary

The factory sized hole is not even close to the size it needs to be to install this captive nut. Im trying to find the right drill size too. I've been told it should possibly be 9/16 but I'd prefer someones real knowledge from experience before I screw up my case.

I've always just pressed them in.

use a bolt and larger washer on the back and tighten it to pull it in.

They press in just fine if one was in the hole prior. But my situation is that there has never been a blind nut in the case so the hole is way to small to press the blind nut insert into the case. I need to drill the hole out to allow the blind nut to press into it. Im going with a 9/16 drill bit as thats as close as I can get to what I appear to need and no one has any advice or suggestions as to anything different. Wish me luck.

Earlier cases didn’t have this feature. Your hole must be around 10.3mm right now. Wait until it arrives, measure, and aim for .005” smaller. Step up to it, starting at .010” smaller first. Measure and decide if it needs more.

Ream hole if possible, drilling tends to grab and oversize previous holes.

You can buy these at McMaster Carr. They list drill bit sizes in the specs. Ray

If this task is that difficult to do, then maybe you should find a good mechanic.

And to complicate things even more, there is the lip on trans case the was supposed to lock the nut from turning (when using bolt & nut) ..... It's a problem when using a insert because as you tighten bolt the "lip" pushes the socket off bolt head.... You either should grind back lip or use allen head cap screw....
