all vehicles are pre 63 blinker treatment so 1962 or earlier. |
The Ford Transit isn't one but its predecessor FK 1000 and it doesn't have blinkers either. |

You are technically and chronologically correct, but we also use the words Bulli and Samba for T1 buses, although they were never called like that by the factory. I was referring to the Ford as a Transit to make it easier to understand for non-Ford people.
The FK1000 designation can be misleading, because it may even be a FK1250 (higher payload 1000 or 1250 kilograms). _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Well, the FK 1250 came onto the market in 1958 and already had the blinkers mounted on the corners below the A-pillars. Incidentally, the correct name for the Transit would be Ford Taunus Transit.
But I certainly understand the efforts to simplify things. |

Exactly. FK = Ford Köln. Ford didn't even badge their German cars and vans 'Ford' until 1964, when the plume was added to the lower right front fender/wheel well for the first time.
it's interesting that even the earlier Transits were available with the 1500 55hp engine by 1955 already (along with the small 1200 Flathead 4), when VW only introduced the 1500 ( 44 Euro hp) in the bus for 1963.
It's weird that after all those decades, different series of buses, Alfred Haesner being the engineering director for both the VW Transporter and the FK1000 ( Transit). there are rumors there will be no further VW Transporters, but only Transits, and getting rebadged for VW. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !
