Can someone tell me what the bolt is for that is between the cylinder 1 lifters? Is it part of the oil relief system?
This is off of a 1.7L VW Bus engine, original case marked CB.
Don't mind the dirty case, its gotten cleaned since i took the picture
Thanks

present on the dual-carb 1800 '74 case as well.
It's part of the internal oil pressure relief/regulation system. |

Ahh thank you.
Is there a part number associated?
I want to make sure all its components are there. Is there a spring and some sort of relief valve behind it? |

FWIW,
3/8” drive ratchet fits the plug perfectly. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Hmmm meaning it fits inside the bore where the piston would otherwise go?
I thought i found the part number (021115411A) but they seem to all be the 16mm pistons that go into the larger oil pressure relief valve found at the bottom of the case.
When i measure this control valve bore between these cylinder 1, its more like 12mm. So now im back to square one.
Anyone happen to know where these pistons can be found?
I have the triple square bolt and the spring, but that relief piston is missing in there. Might have rolled off somewhere when i moved things around |

The piston part # is: 021 115 411
The spring part # is : 021 115 421 A
The outer plug part # is: 021 115 431 A
I will see if I have time to measure one. Ray |

An update incase people wonder, the shop that degreased and washed my case ended up finding the piston at the bottom of the machine. BLESS.
I messaged a ton of vendors in the mean time though, seems like this particular piston is much harder to find then the larger 16mm one. So i'm grateful i found mine.
I do believe the correct piston number is 021 115 411, but for those looking to purchase be weary. It seems that the part number is sorta universally applied to the relief pistons. Make sure to get dimensions from the vendor before purchasing. _________________ 1972 Westfalia |

It really not universal. The base number may be but the letter code on the end is what makes the critical sorting out.
If you get a minute, grab a caliper and measure OD, ID, length and depth of the inside and post it in this thread so others can find it. This would be an easy part to make if someone needed to. It's really more of a cup than a piston.
If you can't, I may be able to get to mine to post in this thread. Ray |
