I just picked up these points from O'Reilly for my 1960 Beetle (6v). Their website says these are a direct fit, but in the description it says they're for 12v systems. I know I probably shouldn't trust their website, but are points really that specific or should these work for me?

They will work fine at 6 volts, no difference in the points for 6 or 12 volt. It is a silly description from Orielly
YIKES!!!!! $22 for points!!!!! Good lord that is expensive!!!! Sticker shock!!!
Rock Auto has them for 1/4 to 1/2 that price.

Points are just a switch, so they will work on 6v and 12 systems.
FYI, the picture is of a set of 01 006 points for a Bosch ZV/PAU 4R2 40hp Big cap. Those were on 1961-1964 engines.
A 1960 engine should have a VJU4BR8 that uses 01 003 points.

Thanks for the info! Considering shipping costs, I went ahead and ordered from WW (along with some other parts). |

Wolfsburg West is a good resource, but your best bet is to source tune up parts that are NOS rather than brand new. There are quite a few private individuals in the classifieds. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Actually SMP (Standard Motor Products) points and condensers are still very high quality.
NOS points can have a film on them and might need to be filed to work properly. NOS Condensers can fail in a short time.
NOS means old stock never used... it doesn't beam as good as new. _________________ Glenn

I hope you ordered based on the distributor model, not on the year of the car or engine. |
