The Greatest Generation, I don't think that label can be used for any generation since.

Oh and they came in all shapes and sizes. Bell Bomber plant aka Air Force plant #6 was a happening place running 24/7 with Rosie the riveters everywhere, a shortage of men because many were serving overseas. I worked at the same plant which became Lockheed after the war. Left behind during WW2 a young boy just 16 worked the bomber plant and he got traded around like a pack of lucky strikes among the women at the plant. This was his contribution to the effort. People did whatever they had to do. Some of it ain’t pretty I honor them all. I had their pleasure of working with this man and other WW2 vets. A very different breed but honorable and decent.

I’ll disagree with you, but not on this day.

Agree.

My father was in the Army Air Corps at that time, in England. We really have no idea what he did, he never talked about it. After he died, we found out that he was a sergeant.

Thirty years ago from this date was one of the most memorable and infamous days in sports history. There were moments of great celebration that featured iconic sports figures, but they were all overshadowed by the late O.J. Simpson and his white Ford Bronco.

Aftermath of Cuban middle crisis. It was one of those seemingly small things that had huge positive effects.

Pete Maravich born on this date in 1947 in Pennsylvania.

At LSU, Pete scored 3,667 points, while averaging an incredible 44.2 points per game - both NCAA records. Noted for his floppy gray socks and mop of brown hair, Maravich set numerous other NCAA, SEC, and school records, and led the NCAA in scoring three times.

As a pro, Maravich was a five-time NBA All Star, and led the league in scoring for the 1976-77 season, averaging 31.1 points per game for the New Orleans Jazz.

It was great.
