Glad you got it going. It can be a confusing battle at times. I am in the middle of advance v rich v retard v advance right now on a big engine I know nothing about.. congrats |
Sometimes it's easier to just use the advance side of the distributor instead of both the advance and retard. Plugs the retard side and try to use just the advance. See if that works for you. You will need to time the engine differently when using advance or advance with retard. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Not all parts are made the same. NOS OE/OEM parts made mainly in West Germany, Early Germany, and Early Brazil are where VW produced the best quality parts and best fitting products.

Sorry, my post was cryptic. It's a 009. But it will not start at 7.5 BTDC and wants far more advance to start or begin to run smoothly (like 10-12 and like 40 at 3000rpm) so it has been frustrating me. _________________ - 1973 Thing, some LandCruisers and an old Ambulance |

40 is too much. Sounds like it is advancing too much. A 009 usually advances 22 degrees. You are saying there is 28 or 30 degrees. Do you have a Bosch 009? I can tell you how to limit the advance but there might be something else wrong with your distributor. You should open it up and check it out. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
